donderdag 30 april 2009

donderdag 30 april 2009 Up at 5:17. My alarm is beeping away. Turn on AM 1090. Stephanie Miller talks about President Obama's press conference. After eight years of a president who could barely form a coherent thought or sentence, however, Obama's press conferences are soothing. He's mastered the art of calming the jangled nerves of his countrymen. They talk about the question which I enjoyed the most from Jeff Zeleny.

Thank you, Mr. President. During these first 100 days, what has surprised you the most about this office, enchanted you the most about serving this in office, humbled you the most and troubled you the most?

Surprised? - Barack Obama responds: There were underlying problems that I was seeing with health care for families and our education system and college affordability and so forth, but obviously I didn't anticipate the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression.

I like the promo for a show on MSNBC. Go, Stephanie! Go!

Curried rice and h-b egg for breakfast. Bath. Up to Kaladi for some of Jeremiah's coffee. Back to my place for a little bit. Walk up Westlake to work. Give Jessica my Vanity Fair about Bush's Hidden Economic Time Bomb. Gloria signs me up from 9 to 10:30. I take 5 Dolphins out to the big playground. Mia gets really upset when I ask her to share the slinky. Annisa says something odd: It's shining. Shhhhh. The air is cool, but the sun feels warm. Lunch prep for Dolphins and Sea Otters. 12 - Elaine's break. Sea Otters don't stay long for their lunch. 1 - Margot's lunch. Mimi is so resistant to nap time. I spend 45 minutes with her today. It's ridiculous. Walk up to Whole Foods. Get some stuff from the salad bar, anchovies and Swiss cheese. Drop off stuff at home. It's nice and sunny. Need a walk! Meander around d'town on foot and by bus. Hear the news about the closure of the Hood Canal Bridge. Go! Quick, commuters!

Turn on The World. I enjoy The Media Relations Department of Hizbollah Wishes You a Happy Birthday.

Curry chicken salad on toast for dinner. Yay! A new episode of Legend Of The Seeker! #18 - Mirror

I notice how Kaleb enjoys eating his P-B & J sandwich with his fork. He thinks it's silly. 1 - Nap time and Margot's lunch. New strategy for Mimi's nap. She still needs intervention. Mimi is so high-maintenance... It takes me 30 minutes of patting and talking her down to get her to sleep. Walk up to Cal Anderson Park. Back to my place, turn on The World. They're tracking the swine flu. Need some groceries at QFC - eggs, Calistoga and spaghetti. Home to listen to President Obama's 100-day prime time press conference. Everyone is for it, too. We get the big playground for a while. Then we head over for dance. I leave to set-up lunches for Starfish and Seahorses. I listen to the Starfish do circle time with Lonnie... doing the alphabet. Kyle pipes up and exclaims, "O is for Obama!" Cool.

12 - Gloria's lunch. I sit with the Seahorses. They talk about their pot luck. They loved it. 1 - Leisha's lunch. Kyle does his I WANT MY MOMMY! thing again at nap time. maandag 27 april 2009

maandag 27 april 2009 Up with alarm. Rice and h-b egg for breakfast. Turn on Stephanie Miller. It's all about The Swine Flu! Eeeeeek! A new strain of swine influenza infects over 2,300 people globally, killing at least 149 people in Mexico. Some people are worried about conspiracy theories. zaterdag 25 april 2009

zaterdag 25 april 2009 Up at 5:05. Listen a little to BBC News. 6:00 - Turn on Mind Over Matters on KEXP. Alternative Radio has a speech by David Korten made in Kirkland, WA on March 7 this year. He talks about our current economic meltdown could be seized as an opportunity to fundamentally alter our economy rather than restoring the unsustainable status quo ante with a few cosmetic changes. We can choose. Money or Life? He's so good! Toast and egg for breakfast. Walk up to Whole Foods to get some ground coffee. I love their Allegro coffee. I get to talk to Dan. I was wondering about the crazy outfit he was wearing yesterday. "It's for Freaky Friday," he says. Stop by Motore for a cup. The strapping-tall-handsome-Nordic guy is there. He's cute. Drop off stuff. Walk over to 4th and University to get #545 to Redmond. Nice fast ride. Redmond is not a very walkable city. It is dominated by motor vehicles. That makes me sad. I do like the City Hall.

But most of it is a bunch of commercial-corporate-crappiness.

On the way back, the 545 takes a detour from the maintenance on 520. The bus drops me off at 6th and Union. Walk up to Cal Anderson Park. Things feel more real to me walking up Pike and down Pine. Life on the street can be fine. Oh! A poster! Rev Theory is coming on May Day!
