maandag 28 februari 2011

maandag 28 februari 2011 Up with alarm. Turn on Stephanie Miller. We all know Momma stayed up last night to be the life of Rob Reiner’s Oscar party – in fact she’s still drunk right now. I hope the lampshade didn’t leave a mark on her head. They talk about Gates' comments at West Point Warning Against Wars Like Iraq And Afghanistan. Fried egg on toast for breakfast. Shower. Walk up Westlake to Whole Foods to get my lunch. Chicken pea salad. 10 - Wash dishes for Teresa. I hear Take The Money And Run on the radio.

I pass through the Moons & Stars and they're talking about the International Space Station and the latest space walk.

11 - Charmaine's lunch. The 8 Seahorses are playing in the Bike Room. I set up lunches. Patty does a circle. 12 - Anne's lunch. The 6 Sea Otters go down for naps. Lynette covers for Pam. That all go to sleep. 1 - Up again to Moons & Stars for Darnell's break. I sit with Gwynn until she falls asleep. I browse through the big book of Space.

I didn't know that Saturn has a Hot Spot.

2 - Patty's lunch. The 8 Seahorses sleep. Two pop up and we read Curious George Flies A Kite. Curious George has a busy day with bunnies, fishing poles, and a powerful kite. Walk up Boren listening The World. I can't get over Gaddafi's arrogance... "All My People Love me!" Up to Gregg and Michael's. I pet the cats. I just watch Hardball. Back at my place. Burrito for dinner. Watch Star Trek - Shore Leave.

zondag 27 februari 2011

zondag 27 februari 2011 Up at 6:22. Red Baron pizza for breakfast. Watch Star Trek The Next Generation - The Neutral Zone

and Voyager - The Eye Of The Needle. Vaughn Armstrong plays Telek R'Mor.

But here's the opinionated review.

Listen A Prairie Home Companion. Walk down to Regal to see I Am Number Four.

Our hero - Alex Pettyfer - shows up shirtless at least four times in this film.

zaterdag 26 februari 2011

zaterdag 26 februari 2011 Up at 5:05. Turn on France 24. Report - Battle For Tripoli Looms. Gaddafi remains defiant.

Just how far is Gaddafi prepared to go in order to hold on to power? They discuss this question in The Debate - Portrait Of A Tyrant: Who Is The Real Gaddafi? I manage to fall back to sleep while France 24 keeps playing. When I wake back up, I switch to KEXP. Oh. They're doing their pledge drive. It distracts me from the meat of the programs.

I hear a pledge from "Mike in Ohio." Realize that people from around the world listen to KEXP. Rice and onion fried tofu for breakfast. Shower. Turn on Wait, Wait.

Jesse Eisenberg is very funny. He and I make the same responses to the questions... which are totally wrong. Take a walk around Capitol Hill. There's Lauren taking a coffee break out in the freezing cold. Up to 12th Avevue. The Northwest Film Forum is going to show Kaboom. It intrigues me.

Hey, kids! The film is about lots of sex, futuristic drugs, post-rock, cults, mystery, murder, animal masks, and a witch. Check out Gregg Araki’s Kaboom some day. Back to my place. Turn on KIRO FM 97.3 Cisco Morris is live at the Northwest Flower & Garden Show.

Courtney Goetz wins a gold medal. She is a Creative Gardener. At Noon, I switch to KBCS 91.3 FM for the Hawaiian Radio Connection. I don't want to walk outside into the cold any more. Stay inside my nice warm apartment. I check out Entertainment Tonight to check out Justin Bieber's new do.

Compare and contrast.

Watch Star Trek - Spectre Of The Gun. As punishment for trespassing, Kirk and crew are forced to re-enact the shootout at the OK Corral.
On a mission to establish contact with the reclusive and xenophobic Melkotians, Captain Kirk decides to ignore the message of a space buoy warning the Enterprise to immediately withdraw from Melkotian space. Kirk tries to contact the Melkotians, but there is no response to his hails. Spock, Kirk, Scott, Doctor McCoy, and Chekov beam down to Melkot, they materialize in a fog bank.

Kirk becomes Ike Clanton.

The Earps: Wyatt, Morgan, and Virgil, who were the town marshals, as well as "Doc" Holliday.

vrijdag 25 februari 2011

vrijdag 25 februari 2011 I'm dreaming in French again... without the effect of France 24 playing. Up with alarm. Chicken tandoori on toast for breakfast. Turn on KOMO News. We broke the record low this morning (21F°) in Seattle. Switch to Stephanie Miller. A bloated right-wing caller starts a big conversation about abortion. Shower. Play with FM Forums. A new post for Justin Timberlake. Where has he been lately? Biceps.

Turn on Weekday - Is City Living Better Than The American Dream? The show is interesting, discussing the assets of city life. Economist Edward Glaeser argues that cities magnify human strengths. Glaeser discusses his book Triumph of the City, and tells us why he thinks the future of America lies in its urban centers.

Walk up Westlake. Brrr. It's too cold. Catch the streetcar the rest of the way. I'm riding with Alice and her mom. 10 - Up to Sunshine Kids to hang out and read Because A Little Bug Went Ka Choo. I read what they love. A little bug sneezes and each consequence leads to a bigger one creating in the end total chaos in town, and all because a little bug went ka-choo! It's a 5 star book on Amazon.

Over to Wildflowers to give Darnell a break. Tucker shows me how to use the antique adding machine. Down to the Bike Room where the Sea Otters and Dolphins are running around. Sarah and Tanja get their breaks. 11 - Kenn's lunch. The 7 Seahorses are playing with stickers and salt in the sensory table. Purple salt covers the toy dinosaurs and a city of plastic cups like a blizzard. I set up lunches. 12 - Cristin's lunch. The Starfish actually hang out and eat for almost 20 minutes. The nap mats are already set up. My aching back thanks you. We read books for a while before the lights go out for nap time. 1 - Toni's lunch. She was so busy cleaning up the lunch mess that I bet that she needs a break. The kids go to sleep fast. 2 - Patty's lunch - The Seahorse sleep. Kenn's cold is dragging him down, but we chat about some movies. For me, he recommends Never Let Me Go.

... and I Am by Tom Shadyac.

Amazing. All the Seahorses are still sleeping when I leave. Sound asleep. It's ironic because they didn't have any outside time today. Now, I want to be outside. It's still freezing. According to the radio, we have 30F° Walk up to Capitol Hill to Bellevue Ave. Visit Market City to get a Mega lotto. I love their art.

Down Pine to the bus tunnel. #73 bus tunnel to Uwajimaya to get some Sho Chiko Bai, California rolls and onion fried tofu. #510 bus up to Union. Drop off stuff at my place. More walking. Up Union and down Pike... As the sun slowly sets on Pike Street.

When I get home, I turn on MSNBC. Hardball! Hey! Hey! Ho! Ho! Gaddafi has got to go!

Richard Engel is still hanging tough in Benghazi. Tandoori chicken and rice for dinner. Watch The Tholian Web. Kirk! Hang in there tough.

donderdag 24 februari 2011

donderdag 24 februari 2011 Up with alarm. Check out the window. No snow for me. According to KOMO News. Seattle and Bremerton go snowless (practically). Check STATUS FHCRC - Delayed opening: 10:00. Report - Snow Buries Parts Of Region, Leaves Rest Unscathed. Check CNN for news about Libya. Report - Gadhafi Blames Bin Laden For Inciting Youth Violence. A young man - with fierce pride - displays the new Libya flag.

Egg salad on toast for breakfast. Turn on Stephanie Miller. Steph chats with The Rude Pundit about the Madison protests, Gov. Walker, and Presidents’ Day. The Rude post - Note to Republican Governors: Pissing Off the Unions Is Never a Good Idea. Walk up Terry to work. It's a little thrill to dash across Denny to Terry. Oh! There's some snow on the playground.

Full schedule - 10: Cover for Anne's Parent/Teacher conference. Sabrina subs for Pam. She breaks out the shaving cream. The 6 Sea Otters get into it!

45-minute lunches again. 11 to 11:45 - Elaine's lunch. Kathy is subbing for Jessica. I do the diapers and lunch setup while Kathy reads stories. 11:45 to 12:30 - Cristin's lunch. What an intense, chaotic 45 minutes. The kids are emotional and somewhat aggressive. I have to set out 8 mats while the kids eat. Whew! It's a relief to take my own break. 12:45 to 1:30 - Anne's lunch. We have one no-napper. I take him to the Bike Room. He's rather interesting. First, he's all about balls... throwing them, chasing them and retrieving them. Even organizing them in groups of small and large. Then, he dumps the Legos and builds with the Legos. 2:15 - Back to Dolphins for Kathy's break. A couple kids wake up. Down again to the Bike Room. When Kathy comes back, I go home. Turn my radio on to The World. There's a powerful report... it is one of the most incredible reports I've ever heard on the radio. Give Michele Norris a Peabody Award. Thousands of anti-government protesters gather in the town square of Az Zawiyah, Libya. Michele speaks with a 58-year-old businessman who is in the town square as guns are firing and explosions go off. It drives me to tears. Report - Militias In Libya Attack Protesters. Al Jazeera, citing witnesses, said 100 people were killed in the clashes between the protesters and the Kadafi forces. It's snows a little while I'm walking. I do a circle eight around d'town to walk off my grief about that violence in Libya. Back at my place to watch KOMO News. Big news for Seattle - Boeing Wins $35 Billion Air Force Refueling Contract.

"The Menagerie" won a Hugo Award for Best Dramatic Presentation. On stardate 3012.4, the USS Enterprise diverts to Starbase 11.

Then we flashback to The Cage during Spock's court martial. It's weird to see Spock smile this big. Maybe the Humming Plants are ticklish for Vulcans. It's difficult to reconcile with canon in many instances. For example, Spock smiles and uses several Human expressions such as "buzzing about down there", which he seldom did in subsequent episodes and films.

Jim is not very happy with Spock. Spock refuses to release control of the ship, and Kirk looses command because they're on course to the forbidden planet - Talos IV.

One of my favorite scenes is where crew tries to rescue Pike with their most powerful phaser. It sounds like it's driven with a warp engine.

woensdag 23 februari 2011

woensdag 23 februari 2011 Another restless night. Turn on France 24. So much news about Libya. Report - Libyan Revolt Spreads As Cities Fall To Protesters. I fall asleep again during Talking Points, but I have weird dreams. Watch KOMO News. They're really hyping up the snow storm. Rice and hard boiled egg for breakfast. Turn on Stephanie Miller. A caller from Columbus tells of his experience at the Ohio Statehouse. Report - 5,200 opponents make loud show at the Capitol over Senate Bill 5.

Shower. Walk up to Kaladi for some of Jeremiah's great coffee. He asks me if I'm excited about the impending snow. I confess that I'm rather indifferent, but "I'm not going to freak out (which most Seattlites do) if it comes." Back to my place with my coffee. Watch Stephanie Miller on Hal Spark's UStream. Hal refers to Rush Limbaugh's “Soft-core porn” which he plays on his show. It's actually My City Was Gone by the Pretenders.

“I WENT BACK TO OHIO
BUT MY PRETTY COUNTRYSIDE
HAD BEEN PAVED DOWN THE MIDDLE
BY A GOVERNMENT THAT HAD NO PRIDE
THE FARMS OF OHIO
HAD BEEN REPLACED BY SHOPPING MALLS
AND MUZAK FILLED THE AIR
FROM SENECA TO CUYAHOGA FALLS
SAID, A, O, OH WAY TO GO OHIO”

Walk up Westlake to work. 10 to 11:15 - Wash dishes for Teresa. Turn on the radio. The radio is blasting out KEXP! That hippie long haired stuff! Tanja changed the station last night. I listen to something that I haven't heard in a long time.

After I deliver the dishes. I head down to the playground to join the 7 Seahorses. It's Kenn's lunch. These guys are emotional. And they don't want to stay out in the cold. We take them inside. I set up lunches while Patty does circle. The Seahorses love their circle. I get to eat lunch with the group today. 45-minute lunches from now on. 12:30 - Cristin's lunch. Sharon is subbing for Toni. She and I settle the 7 Starsih down for naps. There's resistance in both sides of Seahorses and Starfish. Patience! Patience. 1:15 - Sharyn's lunch. Both Cristin and I try to deal with the resistance. Finally, all are asleep by 1:30. 2 - Patty's lunch. The Seahorses are napping. They sleep through the whole hour. Thank the child care gods! Kenn and I talk about this and that. When Patty comes back at 2:45, Kenn gets a 15-minute. Glad to leave. Stress levels are always high with snow warnings. Walk to d'town. Meander a little to see if the snow falls. I see commuters with frantic looks on their faces... to get out while the goin' is good. Drop off stuff at my place. Listen to a little of The World. Americans are trying to get out of Libya. They interview an American who just fled Libya. She was a social studies teacher at the American School in Tripoli. Report - An American Who Fled Libya. While walking, I got a little snow on me. I want to walk some more... up to Whole Foods to get some Hot Bar. Back to my place. Watch some KOMO News. More snow hype. Colder air will soon move in, dropping the temperature to below freezing at the ground level and allowing snow to stick in Seattle proper. Switch to Star Trek - Elaan Of Troyius. The Dohlman of Elas is accompanied by a group of huge, powerful men, who wear body armor but carry nuclear hand-weapons. Kryton and two fellow guards beam aboard the Enterprise to ensure that the ship was secured for the Dohlman's transport.

Mid-journey, Kryton entered the Main Engineering and rigged the antimatter pods to blow up when the warp drive was engaged. When his sabotage was discovered Kryton mocked Captain Kirk's attempt to question his motives. After being threatened with the prospect of a Vulcan mind meld he stole a phaser from Lieutenant Evans and kills himself.

Check the snow. No snow. Check the Net. Find Ben Loka again. Yay! Long time, no see. Tell me all about milk!

Let me tell you something. There's still no snow. Watch Rachel. Free State Beer? In Lawrence... Kansas? Go, Rachel!

Switch to Stephanie Miller. One of The Fab 14 - Wisconsin State Senator Kathleen Vinehout (D-Alma) - calls in from an secret place to talk about the importance of keeping collective bargaining rights for Wisconsin public workers. Of course, there's Gadhafi... Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi vowed defiance in the face of a mounting revolt against his 41-year rule on Tuesday, making a fleeting television appearance to scorn protesters and deny he had fled the country. Someone in the blog says Gadhafi looks like an old Che Guevara in drag.

Walk up Westlake to work. Breaks for Pam, Anne, Cindy and Patty. I experience 15 minutes of terror with the 8 Seahorses while Patty takes her break. It is total chaos. The kids are throwing things and screaming and pushing each other. When Patty comes back, it's Kenn's lunch. It takes 30 more minutes to clean up the classroom and get them outside to run it off. 12 - Cristin's lunch. Only 5 Starfish. We eat lunch and hang out with books. Toni does the diapers. 1 - Toni's lunch. We're still working on naps. Finally, all is quiet. I go on a short break. 2 - Cindy's lunch. Slowly, but surely, the Dolphins wake up from their naps. The kids play with pens and clipboards. Hey! It's a little snowy. Streetcar to d'town. Train up to Uwajimaya. Get some teriyaki chicken and rice. #550 back up to Union. Drop off stuff. Play podcast of Weekday - Osama bin Laden: The Strategist. Steve Scher talks with Michael Scheuer about Osama bin Laden and his book Osama bin Laden. I don't know what to think after this interview. Except, I ask myself, "Are we really REALLY SCREWED YET?"

Watch some Hardball. Roast chicken and rice for dinner. Watch Voyager - Faces.

Then Geov Parrish and Maria Tomchick talk about the class war politics in America and in Wisconsin and about the culture within the Seattle police department. Curry pea and mushroom soup for breakfast. Shower. Walk up Capitol Hill while listening to Wait, Wait.

Actor John Leguizamo plays a game called "This Game Comes With a Shard of Brittle Gum." Three questions about baseball cards. Wow... It's really windy, but it's sunny. Catch a #8 to Queen Anne and a #13 up to my place. Turn on This American Life at my place. Today's program is rather sad. I feel very sad about the chimp.

Visit the Seattle Public Library browsing through the Star Trek Compendium and travel books about Cuba. I feel nice and warm inside to look at the photos of the beaches of Cuba. Walk up 4th to Westlake Center then up Pike to my place. Turn on The Hawaii Radio Connection.

Then it's Rick Steves' program. Rick chats with a Swiss and a German about ski trips in the Alps where the slopes have some of the most impressive vertical drops anywhere. And he interviews Harry L. Ettlinger a German-born Jew - one of the Monuments Men - whose family escaped to America and now helps repatriate the treasures of Europe plundered by the Nazis.

It kills me that budget cutters are considering Public Radio for the chopping block. NOOOOOOO! Oh, well. Review Entering The Body Of The Organism.

I sense the approach of a Star Trek marathon. Yes! I have a list of Q Episodes to watch... First - Review Of Deja Q. Then watch Deja Q. Star Trek Voyager - Death Wish.

Star Trek Voyager - Q2.

Star Trek Enterprise - True Q.

Sunshine and blue skies. 12 - Cristin's lunch. I deal with the 3 Starfish by myself. (Toni is recruited for kitchen duty.) We have lunch together. We read Coco Counts before nap time.

Austin holds on to my watch with both hands while he dozes off to sleep. 1 - A little help for Toni in the kitchen. I start a load of laundry. 2 - Patty's lunch. Thankfully, the Seahorses are sleeping. Kenn and I fold some laundry. He tells me about an interesting novel that he just finishes - Man In The Woods. Good story.

I don't walk straight home after work. I meander around the Denny Triangle neighborhood to look at the new buildings. After I drop off my stuff, I head back out to shop at Whole Foods to get a few things. Yay! Cute Gregory is my clerk! Back at my place. Turn on MSNBC. Sadness in Bahrain. Report - Bahrain Forces Fire On Protesters; 50 Injured. The police fired on un-armed people. Watch yesterday's Rachel Maddow Show. Wow! Rachel puts it on the line... "It's Republicans vs. Democrats."
