dinsdag 31 mei 2011

dinsdag 31 mei 2011 Up with alarm. It's a work day... a back-to-work-day. I'm not very psyched about the prospects of this week. Getting ready for transition. What a trial. Beans on toast for breakfast. Turn on Stephanie Miller. Comedian Aisha Tyler joins the gang for the show. I love how they mock Sarah Palin's Self-Aggrandizement Bus Tour. Oops. She forgot to show up at Gettysburg. Her version of the Gettysburg Address: Four scones and seven lattes ago our fathers did something, something... Report - Palin A No-show For Fans At Civil War Battlefield. And as carbon-emissions reach their lighest levels ever in the history of the world; ironically, Sarah says I Love That Smell Of The Emissions!

Shower. Walk up Westlake to work. 10 - I'm extra for the Tree Frogs. The Starfish are on a field trip to the Seattle Center, so the Tree Frogs try out their classroom for a few minutes. They seem to like sitting at the big table and playing with the puff balls. 11 - Over to the Sea Turtles for Joyce's lunch. The kids are just coming inside from the rain. Instantly, they head for the toy selves and dump everything on the floor. I set up lunches while Tanya reads stories. 12 - Joyce is back and Tanya goes to lunch. The kids are just playing with their lunches. Diaper are early. The kids want to hear Ol' McDonald before going to nap. 1 - Cristin's lunch. The Starfish are back from their field trip and are going down for naps. They all sleep. Yay! 2 - Toni's lunch. Someone next door wakes up sad, so the kids in both rooms wake up. Amazingly, a few stay asleep. Turn on my radio to listen to The World. It's already over two months ago when a tsunami hit Northeast Japan, and people need and want to rebuild. Report - Japanese City Tries To Recover From Tsunami.
At my place, I turn on KOMO News and MSNBC. Fried rice and tofu for dinner. Watch Stargate Universe - Malice.

maandag 30 mei 2011

maandag 30 mei 2011 Fell asleep last night with SyFy playing on the TV. Awake with the Twilight Zone - The Fever at 3:30. The guy is yelling at the slot machine. Switch to BBC World. I see that it's already Noon in England. I turn on Time-And-Date to track the Local Time In Stockholm and the Local Time In Reykjavik. I imagine my friends are at the Arlanda Airport. I wonder if they ever tried the very particular smelly dish of Hákarl - "fermented shark." Switch to MSNBC. Richard Liu is mediating a debate between a couple hot-heads. I like your tie, Richard.
Black beans and spaghetti for breakfast. The birds are singing outside which seems to perk Maxine's ears up. Switch to Comedy Central for a Futurama marathon. Down to my place. Eat a big bowl of chili. Turn on BBC News. The president of Fifa gets a little testy at a news conference. Report - Sepp Blatter Denies Fifa Is In Crisis. Take my radio with me on a walk up to Denny Park. Listen to the baseball game - Baltimore Orioles At Mariners. The clouds just don't want to burn off. Will it get above 60° today? Back to #404. Watch the game on the TV in High Definition. Nice! In the 7th inning stretch, they make observances to honor US veterans for Memorial Day. The Ms win it right at 4 o'clock. Mariners hold on to win a game that became a lot closer than it should have been.
Switch to Spike TV to watch a Star Wars marathon which they seem to be running in reverse... Revenge Of The Sith to Attack Of The Clones. My friends walk into the apartment when the Travelling Incognito scene comes on. I expected Maxine to be excited to see them, but she's surprisingly nonchalant. They give me some nice treats from Sweden for cat-sitting. We remember Phoenix... She would have been very meowy for their return. We remember Phoenix.

zondag 29 mei 2011

zondag 29 mei 2011 Up at 6:04. Ah... the little drawing by Daniel. This is Mike.
Check the Food Network. What Would Brian Boitano Make?: Band Aid. He makes some fun food for a party for his nephew and his band. What a cool uncle! Southwestern Sopapillas, Italian Chicken Sliders with Tomato Jam, Chicken Fried Steak on a Stick, and Fudgey, Gooey Brownies. Not quite my diet, but still...
Spaghetti and fried tofu for breakfast. Turn on KING 5 for news, weather and sports. I guess that I missed some excitement at last night's M's game. A Streaker Run On Field During The 8th Inning. And The Mariners Take The Yankees In The 12th. Ha! CLICK to see full-size Seattle Times photo. I notice during the weather report that the temp in the bottom right corner is 83°... when it's really 52°.
Take a short walk up to B'way. It's fairly quiet this morning. The merchants are setting up the Sunday Broadway Farmers Market at SCCC. A few people (like me) are walking around Cal Anderson Park. The morning clouds are thick. Back to the apartment to play 89.3 KPCC - Wait, Wait and A Prairie Home Companion. Watch movie - Jumper. As a Virtual Traveler myself, I like seeing lots of juicy images of Rome, Tokyo, New York and other splendid places. The premise is based on a universal childhood escape fantasy: What if you could instantly transport yourself anywhere? Turn on the radio to listen to the 9th inning of the Yankees vs. Mariners game. It looks like the Mariners will not be able to win this one. Yankees Avoid Sweep With 7 to 1 Victory Over Mariners. Spicy rice and tofu for dinner. Walk down to the Pike Market. I don't see any Yankee fans.
Catch a #10 up the hill to Boylston and walk back down to the apartment. Watch movie - Shrek The Third. Justin Timberlake is the voice of Artie. Eric Idle is the sorcerer Merlin. I love his entrance. Merlin becomes one of my favorite characters. I love his Whammy Zammy.
Merlin: Greetings, cosmic children of the universe. Welcome to my serenity circle. Please leave all bad vibes outside the healing vortex. Now prepare- [the holograph cuts off. Merlin comes out the front door and says]
Merlin: I knew I should have got that warranty.

Over to the Travel Channel. Watch Anthony Bourdain - Los Angeles. I seem to be visiting places warmer than Seattle through the TV. I enjoy the segment about Thai Town. Tony eats a meal of Thai boat noodles at Sapp.

Meander around d'town on foot and by bus. It's a big sports day in Seattle. The New York Yankees are in town to play the Mariners. Yankee fans are shopping and seeing the sights. I see a variety of NY baseball caps.
More exciting for me: The groups of Mexicans heading down to Qwest Field for the Mexico Vs. Ecuador Soccer Match. All the people wearing their football jerseys and some with flags of Mexico held high... ¡Arriba!
By the time I get back to the apartment, I turn on KUNS - Ch. 29 for the match.

Wow! There are lots of fans in the stands! ¡Ya se armó!
Turn on Comedy Central to watch Superhero Movie. It has only two stars but most of the time I'm laughing out loud. I like the clumsy, Spandex-clad Dragonfly boy.
It looks nice and sunny outside, but I stay inside looking at travel photos. Also, a Star Trek movie marathon is playing on SyFy. I haven't seen Star Trek: The Motion Picture in a long time.

donderdag 26 mei 2011 Up with alarm. Watch a little of Morning Joe, but I switch to France 24. Heads of state are arriving in Deauville, France for the 37th G8 Summit. Le président français Nicolas Sarkozy says bienvenue!
Japanese Prime Minister Naoto Kan will brief the G8 on Tokyo’s response to the nuclear crisis at Fukushima after the tsunami in March, part of a process of discussions aimed at improving the safety of nuclear power plants. The G8 Will Discuss Unrest In The Arab World.

A shift in global influence to emerging powers such as India and China, who are not in the G8, has led to the bloc's relevance being questioned. But speaking in London on Wednesday, President Obama rejected arguments that the rise of superpowers like China and India spelled the demise of American and European influence in the world. Anyway... I like the logo.
Smörgåsbord for breakfast. Shower. Streetcar to work. 10 - Open space. The Bike Room looks busy with at least 15 kids from the Infant Room, so I help out. Ouch! Someone clonks me with a block.
