Walk up Westlake to work. Four hours with the Sea Otters. Give Patty some planning time. Ina covers for Charmaine. The kids have early playground time. Best activity - smashing sand castles (that I make). They help me fill the buckets and even pack down the sand with their shovels. The kids seem a little scattered when we come inside. We draw pictures with crayons. Read some books. I set up lunches. Leisurely-going lunchtime and nap time. Quiet time for Seahorses. Oops. It raining a little. Ride the streetcar to d'town. Take my wet shoes and socks off. Settle down with KOMO News. Cool. Golden Tate is on the show. Mary Nam interviews him about life post-season. And he's very Golden. dinsdag 26 februari 2013 Restless night. Watch Star Trek Voyager - Pathfinder. Barclay is such a spaz! But I manage to fall asleep. Then a nightmare involving bugs, spiders and mice wakes me up. Oy! Pasta prima vera for breakfast. Watch some ABC 7 Chicago News. It's voting day for the people in the Illinois 2nd District to find a successor to Jesse Jackson, Jr. Up to Kaladi for some coffee. Hang out for a few minutes. Streetcar to work. I'm extra for the Dolphins and Sea Otters. Set-up their lunches while they play outside. Then they have a little story time. The Sea Otters seem to like the John Langstaff (Author), Feodor Rojankovsky (Illustrator) books like Frog Went A-Courtin' Over to Starfish. They're going down for naps. Everyone experiences a magical nap time. Nice and quiet. Turn on All Things Considered for the streetcar ride to d'town. The sequestration thing is giving me a headache in my right eye. "Tick-tock goes the clock." Short walk up to B'way. It's too chilly to go further. Back home. Are we like... "Oh My GOD! We're Doomed!" with the sequester? Thanks for explaining it Comedy Central.

Chardon High School are dealing with the trauma of the shootings a year later. The school superintendent is against arming teachers. Report - Chardon: One Year Later. Steph interviews Dave Gilson - writer for Mother Jones - about debunking right wing gun myths. And regarding the refrain “guns don’t kill people, people kill people,” (GAH!) Gilson says that in fact people who own a gun are more likely to kill someone with a gun than people who don’t own a gun. It's really windy and a little rainy as I walk up to 9th. #40 bus to Mercer. Planning time for Pam as she works on her mentoring. We dare to take the 4 Starfish out into the blustery weather. We have some fun. We take shelter in the playhouse. Back inside, we do a little art project - stickers on lunchbags. Set up lunches for Starfish and Sea Otters. Patty's lunch. I put out the nap mats early while the Sea Otters eat lunch. Easy transition to nap time. The Seahorses are wound up. Two go to sleep quickly, but the others take work. Whew! (They had no outside time.) The Sea Otters wake up early. We just hang out. donderdag 21 februari 2013 Up with alarm. Rice and stir fried chicken for breakfast. Watch movie - Shelter. #40 bus up to Highland. Walk through South Lake Union Park to work. This seems to be the last day for the Bike Room. It's cleaned out after the Starfish and Seahorses use it. The Starfish go back to their classroom, and we get out the play-doh. The Seahorses go to the Infant Playground. Some of the kids hide in the house. I go up to the windows and... "BLAH!" They scream and laugh. Back inside, the kids sit and listen to stories with Toni. I do some diapers. Over to Sea Otter for lunchtime. One falls asleep at the table. They easily go down for naps. The Seahorses are more ornery. Streetcar to Whole Foods to pick up some lunch and dinner. A nice California tofu wrap and fried cod with veggies. Turn on the news at home. Oscar Pistorius is a hunk! But Thierry Mugler Drops His Ads. Images from the Deadly Winter Storm Q. Near white out conditions, thunder snow and strong winds swept into the Midwest, bringing transportation to a halt in several states. Poor travelers.

Walk up to 9th and Denny and catch the #40 up to Mercer. Busy day with the 6 Sea Otters. They want me to play the "AB-CD" Which has the Humpty Dumpty song on it. They love to dance to that. We need to take our energy outside to the playground where they chase bubbles which fly away in the wind. Then the kids chase each other. "Fall on the ground!" they say with glee. We laugh so hard. We found some chalk. We drew on everything, then we clean up our chalky graffiti with towels. We settle down for lunch, but they don't seem hungry. The kids crash at nap time. Over to the Seahorses. They seem wound up. It takes time to settle them down. I ride with a couple old friends on the streetcar to d'town. "We're going to get cupcakes," they tell me. "That sounds very yummy." Walking. I pass through the convention center. The Flower & Garden Show has started. Back at my back. Turn on the news. KIRO does an investigation about Mixed Martial Arts and the fists that kill. It's too brutal. Sometimes, there are fatalities.

I love the interview with Charlie Pierce - Esquire Politics. They talk about Meet the Press host Dick Gregory’s interview with Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., on Sunday’s show. Stephanie says she has to give Gregory “some begrudging props” for the interview, and she quotes from an article Pierce wrote: “Gregory nearly got McCain’s cranium to detonate.” Pierce also mentions Rep. Paul Ryan, R-Wis., who was on This Week. Ryan was trying to rehabilitate himself, says Pierce, “but he still has the stench of Romney on him.” Streetcar to work. I'm with all the toddler groups this morning. They make Swiss Band Aids, I see. I set lunches and mats up for the Starfish. Change diapers for the Sea Otters. Naps are a trial for the Seahorses. I didn't know that it's a true story. The song takes its main inspiration from a newspaper article about a 15-year-old boy named Jeremy Wade Delle from Richardson, Texas who shot himself in front of his English classmates on the morning of January 8, 1991. Turn on Stephanie Miller. John Fugelsang joins the gang from NYC. He sounds upset with Harry Reid and the filibuster against the Hagel nomination. Walk up Westlake to work. I'm everywhere - Starfish, Seahorses, Ducklings, Seahorses (again) and Sea Otters. It's a lot, but it works out. I like the Peace Walk that I take with the Seahorses. "We're looking for peace." It's a beautiful day. All groups sleep well. Streetcar to d'town. Stop by the Mariners Team Store on 4th and Stewart. I like my new baseball cap. It fits just right. Watch KOMO News. They interview a couple of the puppeteers for the stage show of War Horse at the Paramount. Human beings! Surrender, or face total annihilation! Watch a long, lost movie from my collection - Destroy All Monsters. donderdag 14 februari 2013 Happy Valentine's Day!  Up before alarm. Fried egg and potatoes for breakfast. I can't stream KTLK, so I switch to Chicago's Progressive Talk. My brain goes to Chicago this morning. My sister shared photos of her recent trip to Chicago. Lincoln Park. Also, Northern Illinois University marks 5 years since mass shooting. I would love love LOVE to go to the Sexy Liberal Show at The Chicago Theatre - 175 N. State St., Chicago, IL 60601 - April 13th. Streetcar to work. It's a great day for stickers - stars and hearts. I get a heart. Over to Seahorses for Kenn's lunch break. I take a few energetic kids out to the playground, and we mingle with the Sea Otters. We hang out in the sandbox for a long time. We have Tonka toys digging and shoveling sand everywhere. Back to Sea Otters for lunchtime. Good eaters. They're talking so much now. Naps are quick and easy. Walk up Mercer to Queen Anne. #4 bus to my place. Watch The Cycle. Lots of commentary on the SOTU. Krystal Ball presents The Case For Raising The Minimum Wage. Brown rice and tofu for dinner. Watch a Disney movie - Atlantis: The Lost Empire.

woensdag 13 februari 2013 Up with alarm. Cheddar and white onion omelet and potatoes for breakfast. Last night, when Marco Rubio appeared, I turned off the TV. I guess that I missed the best thing... as Stephanie Miller mocks mercilessly this morning.
Streetcar to work. Planning time for Patty. I'm with the 5 Sea Otters. The kids are pretty mellow. We read some books. We go outside to the playground. We spend quite a bit of time in the sandbox. At least it's dry... cool and cloudy. Lunches are set up in advance. Over to Starfish as extra help. Take a couple of energetic girls to the Bike Room. I wonder if they can wind down for naps, but they sleep. The Seahorses crash. They went to d'town this morning on the streetcar... their first field trip. Quiet time. Streetcar to d'town. Walk straight up to my place because I'm tired. Watch movie - Team America: World Police. Kim Jong Il: Now you see, the changing of the worrd is inevitabre! "Ka'plah!" Teriyaki drummettes and sweet potato fries for dinner. Watch some news. I love this story... The power that comes from being yourself.

They cheer when I walk into the Bike Room. Do lunch set-up for Starfish and Seahorses. Over to Sea Otters for Charmaine's lunch. The kids seem very quiet. The boys want to play before nap time. Over to Seahorses. They're going down for naps. The Sea Otters sleep. Just 2 early risers. Streetcar to d'town. Straight to my place. Turn on the news. From CNN - Reporter first on pope story, thanks to her Latin skills. Eatonville, Washington... You're really out there. Police identified a 13-year-old boy believed to be responsible for a “kill list” threatening classmates at his middle school. Report - Eatonville boy in ‘kill list’ incident had access to guns. Really, Skylar?
The boy is in juvenile detention in Tacoma. He pleaded not guilty to four counts of felony harassment Monday. Now, the State Of The Union address. I know it will focus on jobs and the economy. Still, I hope that he will address the issue of gun violence. Look at the green ribbons... to honor shooting victims of Newtown, Conn. In the final moments of his State of the Union address, President Barack Obama pivoted from a policy-heavy political speech to an emotional plea for lawmakers to at least vote on reforms to the nation’s gun laws. "Gabby Giffords deserves a vote."

dinsdag 5 februari 2013 Today, I fly back to Seattle. (NOT) I start travelling this afternoon. So, I'm a little restless. Up at 5:36 AM. Watch some news. The weather report says that it will be a calm day. I hope so. Trail bologna, bean soup and a roma tomato for breakfast. Find a movie on mom's computer. It's Nana at Kendal. A remarkable and gracious lady, indeed. My morning movie - My Favorite Martian. Jeff Daniels is riding in an old Valiant - one of the greatest cars in the world. Martians... "Just looking for a place to crash." Dan and Lisa invite mom and I to have lunch at The Fort. Mom gets the meatloaf special. Man! My heart was set on a perch sandwich! They don't have any fish at all! I get a big bowl of chili. Mom pays for the bill. That's extraordinary! They drop us off at home. While the folks watch FOX News, I stream KOMO News through mom's computer... ss well as some segments of The Daily Report - Jon Stewart's Totally-Non-Gay-All-Male-Tackle-Fest.
Hugs, kisses and bye to mom and dad. Dan drives me to CAK. OH MY GOD!!! Is United flying defective planes? My flight to Chicago is cancelled... The last flight to Chicago tonight. I call people about my predicament. I get re-ticketed with Delta for tomorrow morning. Shuttle to Quality Inn - 2940 Chenoweth Rd. Turn on the TV. Take a hot bath. Relax. Perhaps to dream.

maandag 4 februari 2013 Solid sleep until Midnight. Wake up hungry and thirsty. Doze in and out of sleep while channel surfing. Stick with Lethal Weapon for a few minutes until I fall back to sleep. Up at 6:30. Turn on WKYC for news and weather. Interesting stuff happened at last night's Superbowl, it seems. SF rally, Beyonce and a blackout. Winter Weather Advisory: 2" to 4" of snow on the way. Lasagna and egg for breakfast. NBC News: How the 49ers stunk just enough to lose... Perhaps it's true, but it seems a harsh little opinion. And the blackout... How old is the Superdome anyway? 38?
Dan drops by to take me out to eat. "I feel like a Reuben sandwich." We drive to Medina to Sully's. It's delicious! On our way back to Wellington, I say "I love you, Litchfield!" I visit Dan's. He gives me the yearbooks from Vermilion High. Back in the day, I had some crushes on some of my classmates, I admit. It makes my head spin. Back to my place, I turn on the TV. I need to get away from FOX News which my parents constantly watch. I flip through the channels to find a movie filmed in Seattle - The Hand That Rocks The Cradle. Yikes! It's scary and intense. Spoiler: The evil nanny is impaled on a white picket fence. Switch to something more light-hearted - Ellen. It's quite touching that she gives Julian and Darius (from Australia) $25,000 for their dad's brain tumor. As for my dad... a nurse drops by to take his vitals and ask questions about his activities, etc. I like this nurse. After some news and dinner, mom and dad watch their own stuff in the living room. I watch my own movies in the Florida Room - Journey 2: Mysterious Island and Contagion. It's a place of strange life forms, mountains of gold, deadly volcanoes, and more than one astonishing secret. From Hong Kong to Minneapolis, London to Abu Dhabi, people by the thousands come down with something nasty. It starts with a simple cough, but quickly progresses to fever, brain hemorrhage and, finally, death. Then society breaks down.

zondag 3 februari 2013 Up at 8:36. Nice to sleep for a change. (I knew I would.) Stouffer's Spinach Souffle for breakfast. Watch movie - The Third Wheel.
Lovely movie. I like The Bus Song. And, strangely, Matt Damon pops up in a bit part. Good job, Matt. Again... Food much? Watch the Travel Channel - Super Bowl Tailgate Takeover. My god! The decadence! A sour cream fountain? Ew! Snow blowing around. Then the sun comes out, but it's still only 19F° outside. Warm up to a movie - Billy Elliot. There's a lot that I forgot - Billy's family, the miner's strike and how Billy's father turns himself around about his dream. And... Yay! Super Human Sunday Marathon with Lab Rats. Lisa picks me up and we go to visit Oberlin. I love this little city.
Back to Wellington. Lisa and I have a little wine break. Chat about this and that. Pet the dogs. Drop off. Well... Thanks to BBC America, I can avoid the Superbowl nonsense and watch a Star Trek The Next Generation marathon. Mom orders pizza and BBQ chicken wings from East Of Chicago Pizza for dinner. Delivery in about 20 minutes amazing, that. We munch on the stuff while the first quarter plays on. After dinner, I keep watching my marathon and conk out on the sofa.
