donderdag 31 januari 2015

donderdag 31 januari 2015 Chilly in the apartment. It's 24.5 °F and clear. It must be warm out there somewhere - Justin Bieber.
Justin Bieber Gets Goofy During Stunning Tropical Vacation with Hailey Baldwin. Up at 4:04 AM. Happy New Year - 2016 has arrived in Auckland, NZ... 21 hours ahead of Bellingham. Goofy like J. B. Watch MST3K - Racket Girls. On my bus ride to work, I hear Limp Bizkit on the radio... No one knows what it's like To be the bad man To be the sad man Behind Blue Eyes . It puts me in a non-goofy mood. Is this what you play on New Year's Eve, KISM? I thought that work would be hard. Only 8 kids in the whole school. Time to spend one-to-one with the kids. This little girl is testing her skills at construction. Amazing.
Time to spend d'town B'ham before I catch my bus. The Boundary Bay looks busy. La Fiamma Pizza as well. Some day I might get a haircut at Jes'. Look in the window. A place with an R2-D2 should have fabulous service. Let's talk about Star Wars during my buzz cut.
The Klingons would say DIS chu' botIvjaj. Love it!
Tropical vacation. Chilliness wait for my bus.

woensdag 30 december 2015

woensdag 30 december 2015 Toss and turn all night. Midnight movie - MST3K - Code Name: Diamond Head. Michael Konopasek - TV news reporter at KING 5 News - visits a shelter for homeless in Bellingham. I didn't feel a thing, but 4.8 earthquake rattles Northwest Washington.
Nice day for an earthquake. It's pretty chilly, but we love the sunshine and blue skies.

dinsdag 29 december 2015

dinsdag 29 december 2015 Restless again. Watch CNN. The Kurdi family came to represent the struggle of many Syrian families when images of Alan's body were published around the world in September. Alan Kurdi's relatives arrive in Canada as refugees. Catching up with Democracy Now. A research project says police nationwide killed at least 1,152 people in 2015. Amy interviews Sam Sinyangwe - a policy analyst and data scientist with Campaign Zero and Mapping Police Violence.
Mapping Police Violence: New Study Shows Cops Have Killed At Least 1,152 in 2015. No indictment in the Tamir Rice case. This is truly the year of policing dangerously. It seems to be a year of working dangerously, too. I'm going to work sick again. WE HAVE NO BENEFITS... No sick days. But, geez, that's ok. The U.S. Bureau of Labor says 39 percent of all American workers – or 41 million people – do not have paid sick leave. That means a lot of people are showing up for work while under the weather. But this stupid attitude prevails... The children are the germ bags. Not the teachers. Just wash those germs away.
Fecal matter! Influenza! I never got a free flu shot my employer. Inactions have consequences, dear employer. What a crazy world. And Affluenza!

maandag 28 december 2015

maandag 28 december 2015 Restless night. Restless stomach. Maybe I should call in sick... But I don't. I work on only one cup of coffee. It tends to be an easy day. I take all the kids out to the playground. A few of them look tired. Too much holidays? A lingering four-day weekend. I get a message during my break. Matt Dallas and husband Blue Hamilton reveal they have adopted a two-year-old boy named Crow. Awesome. I love their YouTube video - Welcome To Our Pride.
I survive the work day. The bus ride home seems to take forever. I'm tired. Watch the news and conk out.

zondag 27 december 2015

zondag 27 december 2015 Nice to sleep in. I found a new vlogger on YouTube - Connor Franta. 5 million subscribers. Quite impressive. Why is he recommended on my iPad? Yet, there he is. Connor, you have the same birthday as me. Only you're 23, and I am 59. My search about Play-Doh. A rainy day inside. 100% chance of rain. Constant rain. Watch a couple gay movies on Netflix. A little holiday special. The Perfect Wedding. Is It Just Me? Ah! David Loren... your guitar melts my heart. Re-watch Childhood's End Part 3. What is happening to the Children of Earth?

Saturday, December 26, 2015

zaterdag 26 december 2015

zaterdag 26 december 2015 Watch Childhood's End.
Arthur C. Clarke wrote a brilliant novel. The Overlords, in fifty years, they eliminate ignorance, disease, and poverty. Then this golden age ends--and then the age of Mankind begins. But what about Tom?
It's a grey day, so stay inside all day.

vrijdag 25 december 2015

vrijdag 25 december 2015 Love to watch the Surfing Santas! Christmas Day in Perth: Crowds flock to beaches for festive fun.
And
PHOTOS: CHRISTMAS AROUND THE WORLD My favorite Christmas movie - MST3K: Eegah. Prologue - Crow in a box: Servo tries to bring Crow's temperature down to absolute zero. Joel realizes it will probably kill all of them and tries to rescue Crow, who is so brittle from the cold he falls to pieces when Joel touches him.
Take a bike ride down to the waterfront. The Hotel Bellwether.
Ultimately... I'm by myself. And it's Chinese Food On Christmas.

donderdag 24 december 2015

donderdag 24 december 2015 The last day of Krypton. Before the cataclysm that sent the infant Kal-El rocketing toward a remarkable future as Earth’s indestructible protector, his home planet Krypton flourished. Before treachery, technology, and nature conspired to doom an unparalleled civilization.
Watch Man Of Steel. Jonathan Kent touches my heart... It'd be a huge burden for anyone to bear; but you're not just anyone, Clark, and I have to believe that you were... that you were sent here for a reason. All these changes that you're going through, one day... one day you're gonna think of them as a blessing; and when that day comes, you're gonna have to make a choice... a choice of whether to stand proud in front of the human race or not.
At last, Star Wars - Revenge Of The Sith. Padmé and Anakin want love... not war.

woensdag 23 december 2015

woensdag 23 december 2015 Up at 3:02. The Mads have created decorator roaches. They send Joel their movie - Hercules Unchained.
Busy day at work. The kids are revved up for Santa Claus. We stayed inside all day because of the rainy weather. Stickers for an art project - snowmen, candy canes, etc. How typical. But they seem to like it when I read The Itsy Bitsy Snowman.
Catch up with the news on my break at the library. Weird weather - It's 62° at my mom's place in Ohio. It's a typical Bellingham 38.2 ° and drizzly. YULETIDE HEATWAVE.
I start the day and end the day with MST3K... and drizzle.
Manhunt In Space.

Tuesday, December 22, 2015

dinsdag 22 december 2015

dinsdag 22 december 2015 Up at 1:53 AM. Watch Star Trek - The Devil In The Dark. The Enterprise is sent to a mining colony that is being terrorized by a mysterious monster - a silicon-based lifeform resistant to the "Type I" handheld phasers.
Switch to the news. Donald Trump says he wants Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton to apologize for claiming that he was "becoming ISIS's best recruiter." In the Seussian Christmas spirit... The power goes out before I head to work... while I want to make some coffee. #540 to d'town. Take the kids outside, but it's too cold for them. They don't last long before they beg me to bring them inside. Early naps again. They sleep well. Visit the library during my break. The kids get picked up early. Home I go. Citizen Trump? Why? I watch it, and I can't un-watch it.

maandag 21 december 2015

maandag 21 december 2015 There may be only 4 days until Christmas, but it feels like Spring out East. We get the regular chilly drizzle. Hello, Winter Solstice. Warm Weather Across The U.S. Kicks Off Winter. Bus to work. Some kids are taking an early nap. Some of the kids are learning Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer. Outside. We find some puddles to splash in. Lunchtime is a mess, but naps are easy. On my lunch break, I join the Food Co-op... Membership! Things seem to be breaking down at our little school. The deadbolt for a front door is stuck, so everyone has to come in through the side door. This poor old school... Home. The frig is full. Where can I put the beer?
Mushroom garlic chicken for dinner. Movie - Teen Beach 2.

zondag 20 december 2015

zondag 20 december 2015 I know for a fact that you pee sitting down.
Hillary Clinton (Kate McKinnon) gets a visit from 2008's Hillary Clinton (Amy Poehler) and Sarah Palin (Tina Fey). Bike down to Trader Joe's to pick up a few things. Hard boiled eggs, frozen veggies and TJ's Kentucky Bourbon Straight Whiskey. TJ's bourbon has a sweet, fruity scent, a bit like caramel apples with some bubblegum thrown in. Feeling adventurous, I drop off my stuff and ride downtown and through the Columbia neighborhood. Uff da! Best Thai in Bellingham x1000000000 Why? 1. 100% Authentic. Try Wanida Thai . It rains on my way back. Put my wet stuff in the dryer. Can Manziel survive? It's Cleveland - Seattle.

zaterdag 19 december 2015

zaterdag 19 december 2015 Up at 7:18. Nice to sleep in a little bit. Turn on KING 5 for the news. The anchors are in the holiday spirit. Any traffic trouble for Super Saturday? Ha! The traffic map shows through Tracy's sweater.
Call it bachelor chow, but it's a yummy bowl of breakfast for me. It's a mixture of leftovers - fried rice, salad bar, chili and hummus on top.
I head out to shop. Super Saturday is easy in Bellingham! Get a pair of Peakfreak Nomad waterproof shoes at Yaegers Sporting Goods. (The store reminds me of the defunct Chubby and Tubby's of Seattle.) I have great bus Karma. I get around easily. Next stop: Fred Meyer to get some new 550 Levi's. The scenic #525 back to my place. Enjoy some Hawaiian Christmas music from KBCS. Come with me to Santa Island! I'm still re-living Star Wars. The original Star Wars has gotten the bad lip reading treatment, dubbed by the hilarious Jack Black, Maya Rudolph, and Bill Hader. Thank you! STAR WARS: A Bad Lip Reading.

Friday, December 18, 2015

vrijdag 18 december 2015

vrijdag 18 december 2015 Turn on KING 5. Oscar Isaac shares a never before told story and Adam Driver talks about assuming the role of Kylo Ren. Meet the new Star Wars hero and villain.
Then Stephanie Miller. She doesn't want to talk about Star Wars. "That's not a chick thing." (Unless you're a geek chick.) Sean and John want to... And Sean is going to see the new movie after the show.
Get some breakfast at the Food Co-op. Easy-going day at work. Low numbers. Take the hyper-active boys outside. For a mid-December day, it's rather mild. Early naps for the kids, but they sleep quite a while. Friday clean up. Bus up to Haggen to get some of their fried rice. Watch Star Trek - Shore Leave. Finnegan! What's happening?

Thursday, December 17, 2015

A mistrial has been declared in the case of the first of six Baltimore police officers to face trial over the death of Freddie Gray, the man who died from injuries he sustained while he was handcuffed in the back of a police van. Freddie Gray's family reacts to mistrial.
Take an early bus downtown. Coffee at the Bagelry. I still can't access their wi-fi. Another easy-going day with the kids. Coloring and play-doh. Dancing to music. Meet some friends at Round Table Pizza before going to Star Wars - The Force Awakens. We just go into the cinema. We already have our tickets. Surround sound and 3D make it an impressive experience. Cheers for the old friends. Chase scenes. Heart break. Remember that it's just a movie.

Someone is amused by the antics... Wild Rumpus!

dinsdag 15 december 2015

dinsdag 15 december 2015 Can't seem to fall to sleep. Laugh while dozing off to MST3K: Time Of The Apes. Turn on CBS News. Hollywood rolls out the red carpet. Audiences abuzz at "Star Wars" film's premieres. Actors Adam Driver, left, and Oscar Isaac get reacquainted at the Hollywood premiere of "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" on December 14, 2015. Ahhhh.
Turn on Stephanie Miller. She plays the sound of Canadian Kids Welcoming Syrian Refugees. It's the way it should be. Down to work. We have a calm and orderly fire drill with the kids.
Kinda a chilly day, but the tods think that it's interesting. That's our outside time for today. It's nice that we have a lot of staff to do this... and experience it. While the kids eat, I set out the nap mats. They fall asleep fast... Except for one. Walk up to the library for my break. Finally, I'm a member with full privileges. The kids enjoy free play until we close. Bus up to my place. Call mom to catch up with things in Ohio. Watch Dude, Where's My Car? on its 15th anniversary. A new perspective on the forgotten 2000 stoner gem - A Queer Reading of ‘Dude, Where’s My Car?’

Hot fruit cobbler at the co-op. Nice to sit and eat and relax before work. Easy-going day at work. Lots of teachers. Just a few kids. The kids play out in the drizzle. Early lunches and naps. Take my lunch break at the library. Check France 24. They seem relieved that the ultra-right Front National didn't win a thing. We close the school early. Nice that they decorate the busses for the holidays. Finish Star Trek - Dagger Of The Mind.

Sunday, December 13, 2015

zondag 13 december 2015 Watch Saturday Night Live. Chris Hemsworth Wears a Wig and Dress on SNL.
The Seahawks are on a roll! Four wins in a row. Wilson throws 5 TD passes as Seahawks beat Ravens 35-6. What a great pic!
It's been the wettest December ever! In between the bands of showers, I manage not to get too wet on my way to Haggen. HIGH WIND WARNING through 10am. Pick up some fried rice and Honey Sesame chicken. Psyched for Star Wars. I didn't know that Melissa Harris-Perry was a fan. Star Wars' place in the pop culture landscape.

Friday, December 11, 2015

vrijdag 11 december 2015

vrijdag 11 december 2015 Up at 4:48. Turn on Free Speech TV. Amy Goodman interviews Jason Box - professor in glaciology at the Geological Survey of Denmark and Greenland. How do climate scientists feel about climate change deniers?
When the End of Human Civilization Is Your Day Job. Conflict? Mass migrations? Economic Justice? Jason Box and Naomi Klein did an essay for the New Yorker - Why a Climate Change Deal Is the Best Hope for Peace. While the COP21 winds up, life goes on in Paris. City trash collectors have begun to clear away flowers from outside the Carillon bars and the Petit Cambodge restaurant, where 15 people lost their lives. Paris Attacks: messages, flowers and candles left to honor victims collected. Nice day to take the kids for a walk. Behold, Whatcom Creek!
Easy-going day. Thank you, Child Care Gods. Lunch, diapers, naps. Everyone seems thrilled about the new vacuum cleaner. (Get a life.) I don't like how loud it is. It could be the loudest vacuum in the world... And it scares the kids. Oh, well. Quiet Weekend, please. It's supposed to be a rainy, soaking weekend.
