The sidewalk is closed at Fairview & Mercer! The Seahorses and Starfish are out on the playground. I join them for my open space. Then the Sea Otters take over. They even have a picnic lunch out there. Join the 4 Dolphins for the end of lunchtime and naps. I love the low numbers today. Mellow kids. Get to leave early. Walk down to Westlake Park. I admire the new Westlake Children's Play Area. Wander around d'town before going home. Change clothes. Walk up to Harvard Market QFC to pick up some things. Back to my place. Watch KOMO News. First... A happy report. An Eastside student channels Rick Astley to get a prom date. "Never Gonna Give You Up!" Then... Compare and contrast... Even Putin has a press conference today. Meanwhile, Zubeidat Tsarnaeva is in severe denial and rather defiant. I hear that the Tsarnaeva brothers were reformed stoners. Maybe, they should have stayed that way - passive, chill and stoned. Walk up Westlake to work. Spend the whole day with the Sea Otters while their teachers do conferences with parents. We play Humpty Dumpty Dumpty. The kids dance and shake their rattles. Another day of sunny fun on the playground. The Dolphins join us. The kids practice a fake kind of crying. They tell me, "Cry, Mike!" They love my drama. They are quite chatty at lunchtime. They fall fast to sleep. Over to Seahorses. Five asleep. One is really wired. (I almost typed weird.) woensdag 24 april 2013 Up with alarm. Red and green pepper omelet with toast for breakfast. I hear that Boylston Street is re-opening. Watch KOMO News. We're going to have spectacular weather. High: 70° A GORGEOUS day as that off shore flow builds. Walk up Westlake to work. Spend 3 hours with the Sea Otters. One of the kids has a fever. So, I call his mom to send him home. We share the infant playground with the Seahorses. It's busy, but it works. It's nice and warm.  No coats! (No bubbles.) Lunch and naps. They go out fast. Over to Starfish. It's a magical nap time for them. Then to Ducklings. I stay with a napper while the others go outside to play. We put on some sunscreen and we're all outside. Walk to my place. Change clothes. Walk up to Cal Anderson Park. Seattlites love a warm sunny day. Well... It's Capitol Hill, boys.

About a million people in the Boston area are locked down. A law enforcement intelligence bulletin obtained by the AP identified the surviving suspect as Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, 19, of Cambridge, Mass. Need my umbrella for my walk to work. I'm with the Starfish. We love making Mr. Potato Head with multiple arms. Arm for a hat, for example. The kids are so creative with Mr. Potato Head. Over to Sea Otters. We feel adventurous. We take the kids out to play in the rain. Actually, the rain lightens up. It's playable rain. Happy to be in the rain! Nap time is challenging again. Steph interviews Boston-based Charlie Pierce - The Marathon Bombings. In honor of runners all over the world, I'm wearing my Kent State Golden Flashes shirt. I understand that Kent State's track and field is strong. Go, Flashes! Walk up Westlake to work. Spend lots of time outside with various groups. The weather is fine. I'm mostly with the Starfish and the Seahorses today, but I start with the Trailblazers for a 15-minute break. Oh those rowdy kids. Down to Starfish for a few short breaks. Join the Seahorses in the Bike Room. (No outside time for us this morning.) All 8 kids are here. Some of them are cranky. When I go on my break, I check HuffPo. My heart sinks. No link to go to.

We have a great time outside, too. It's rather chilly, but the kids don't seem to care. Inside, we enjoy a leisurely lunchtime. Naps are fairly easy. Streetcar to my place. My back is really achy. Trapped inside a video game, the Gang embark on an epic quest to slay The Red Knight – and make a special friend along the way. I love that furry little guy. And it's awesome that Todd is The Barbarian. The rains lets up, so I take a short walk around First Hill. Ouch... my back. I feel like such an old man. Check NPR. More harm than good, Thatcher? Watch Todd And The Book Of Pure Evil - Simply the Beast. When cheerleaders start disappearing from the school hallways, leaving only their shredded uniforms behind, the gang becomes convinced that they've been eaten by a mysterious creature called The Beast. Todd shows off his martial arts skills. Walk up Westlake to work. Art, art and more art. The kids work on an art project here. "I want yellow." Over to Seahorses. They're involved with water play. While we're playing outside some showers show up. We get wet. Over to Sea Otters. Leah reads stories while the kids eat their lunches. I'm thinking, "You don't have to be a teacher all the time." Anyway... I set out the mats. Clean up the lunch mess. Down for naps. The Seahorses... "Their brains are exploding," Kenn says. Walk up to Whole Foods. They have Caprese salad. Drop off stuff at my place. Walk around d'town for a little while. More Todd. More Todd. MORE TODD! Black bean soup for dinner.

woensdag 10 april 2013 Up at 4:02. Bad weather everywhere. Hail, lightning, heavy rains and winds strike Chicago. Seattle is getting drenched with rain again. Chili lime tofu and rice for breakfast. Turn on Stephanie Miller. As I understand it, today is the day President Obama’s budget proposal for fiscal year 2014 will be released. The show discusses Obama’s Social Security Gambit. Thank you, Steph. Food for thought. One episode of Todd And The Book Of Pure Evil before I go to work. The gang tries to rescue Jenny from the retirement home, but they're forced to fight an army of seniors hungry for human flesh. Ew! Very gross! Redierment Home. Walk in the rain with my big umbrella to work. Leah and I deal with the 5 Sea Otters. It's a miracle, but the rain stops. We take these high-energy kids out to the Infant Playgound. They love to play on the rocking blue dogs. They are just too "doggone" fun to ride. The wind is blowing through the chimes. One of the kids says, "Too loud!" Short lunchtime again. The kids are so tired that they're acting giddy and silly. I turn off the lights early. Down they go... on their nap mats. "Night, night." As usual, the Seahorses are a challenge for naps. Over to the Infant Room. I watch the Ducklings sleep. One-by-one, they wake up. I take them to the Toddler Playground. I leave after our playground time. Walk up to the 500 Mercer QFC. This store makes the best halibut salad. #3 bus to d'town. The bus gets crowded. (And Metro plans to cut back service... again?) Halibut salad Niçoise and ramen noodles for dinner. Watch MSNBC.

The playground and the deck are both busy with kids running around in different directions. It's a manageable chaos. Over to Sea Otters. Only 4 kids. Fresh from a walk, the kids settle down for lunchtime. They're not very hungry. Story time. Then down for naps. Magical nap time for the Seahorses. Unusual for them, but wonderful. Walk up to Whole Foods for juice, soy cream and hot bar. Back to my place. Listen to All Things Considered. Different reports about the hullabaloo on the Korean peninsula. I take a couple boys inside while I set up lunches. They eat lunch early. I set out the nap mats while they eat. Over to Sea Otters. Mellow group. We read Tough Boris before nap time. They love it when I say, "He was MASSIVE!" Over to Seahorses. All 8 kids are here. Someone is upset about mommy going back to work. I expect chaos but everything works out fine. Back to Dolphins. They're all awake... doing art, reading books, etc. Streetcar to d'town. #550 bus tunnel to Uwajimaya. A little shopping. I see some Mariner fans shopping, too. Game tonight. #72 bus tunnel up to my place. Turn on KOMO News. Seattle police chief John Diaz is resigning. The police department is a mess.
