vrijdag 26 april 2019 Up at 4:30 AM. I'm restless, so I get up to read Becoming. On page 352, Donald Trump is mentioned for the first time in this book. The name affects me... in a crazy way. "Here it comes," I tell myself, "Here comes the future of politics." No! Danger! Red alert!

I take a break from my book to take a look outside. The window is splattered with rain drops. The weather map shows that we're in the eye of a low pressure system. If I head outside, I'm eventually going to get wet with intense rain. GOOD MORNING!

Yes! It is really raining! The birds seem to like it. The parking lot is a swimming pool. I'm going to be stuck inside my apartment all day. I get into a political section of Becoming, and I can't help but feel political. I live inside Jim Jordan's 4th Congressional District.

How did I end up living in Ohio's Most Liberal City With Its Most Conservative Congressman? Let's Make Ohio Blue Again!

My brother gave me a bike. Yay! My first bike ride is to the Oberlin IGA Foodliner. I cruise around town, but I take the Oberlin Bike Way for a bit. The weather looks ominous, so I head back.

I order internet service from the Cable Co-op. Installation tomorrow. Whew! I'm not used to this heat. It's 77°F with 57% humidity. My first haircut in Oberlin at Manuel's. $12.

It's 69°F... maybe warmer.  I pass through the Conservatory on my way downtown. Vocals, violins and all sorts of beautiful sounds. At home, I'm still reading Michelle Obama's book. She's a great writer. I love her!

Yep. It's a rainy day. I get a chance to get out when I am treated to lunch at Dave's Cosmic Subs. Very yummy!

It's a shock to my system! It was very lovely yesterday. Sunny and warm. It's 100% precipitation and 42°F in Oberlin today.

We all got this amber alert yesterday. All of our phones went off. How noisy! 2-month-old child taken from Warren found.

donderdag 18 april 2019 The Brickyard for lunch. I love the vegan Cavatappi. My brother, the carnivore, gets the Americana burger. My mom always gets the fish sandwich.

One of the 10 Best Thrift Stores in Oberlin - Goodwill. We find a couple nice items for my apartment - a lovely blue chair and a solid wood table. Nice additions to my place, I think.

Then the Oberlin Supercenter! I've never been in a Walmart. Floor lamp, toaster, microwave and a vacuum cleaner. Groceries, too.

After a hard day of shopping, I sit and relax with a Corona.

woensdag 17 april 2019 Picked up at the Robert K. Pfaff Transit Center in Akron. It's an amazing place... huge and new!

This apartment at the Oberlin Gardens has nothing but a blow-up mattress, but I welcome it after a long 74-hour trip.

The birds wake me up in the morning. My NPR station is WCPN... connecting Northeast Ohioans with their world. Ideastream! Down to the Oberlin Public Library to use their Wi-Fi. It's a lovely day in Oberlin - 68° and a little cloudy. Walking around Oberlin College is wonderful. College boys in shorts! 😋 (I'm wearing shorts, too.) Appreciate the architecture. Many daffodils in Tappan Square.

I get to enjoy the emergence of Spring all over again.

dinsdag 16 april 2019 Thank you for a comfortable and quiet night's sleep. Up - bright and early - in Chicago at the Holiday Inn & Suites.

It's just a few steps from the hotel to the Greyhound station. Turn on WLS-7 for the news, weather and traffic. No storms to deal with. Top story - No evidence of arson at Notre Dame fire. Picture of Notre Dame during cherry blossom time.

The bus station has a food court where I ate 3 big fluffy pancakes with syrup. A STUDENT DRIVER? Only a dozen passengers. Thank you and good-bye Chicago. See you again soon.

Au peuple de France, je voudrais dire que la cathédrale Notre-Dame, c'était comme un cadeau à l'espèce humaine. WOW! Pete Buttegieg relates condolences on Notre Dame fire in French.

Ohio! Crossing the border slipped my notice. The construction on the freeways look the same in both Indiana and Ohio. It slows up traffic a lot, and I'm getting nervous if I'm going to get to Cleveland on time. I worry if I'll catch my connection to Akron and meet up with my ride to Oberlin. I'm going to post this while I have reliable Wi-Fi.
