Waters Begin To Recede In Houston. Many thousands of Houston-area homes are still under water and could stay that way for days or weeks. People are wading through waist-high water.
Homeland Security Adviser Tom Bossert takes questions at the White House. "The Disaster Relief Fund is strong," he says. Why would Republicans try to cut FEMA’s disaster relief fund?
Calculating the economic effects of climate change is no simple matter, but Robert Reich is a smart-enough guy. Climate and Inequality... A cruel truth about climate change: It will hit the world's poorest the hardest. Climate change is likely to worsen existing inequalities in the US.

dinsdag 29 augustus 2017

dinsdag 29 augustus 2017 Hurricane Trump is coming to Texas. Watch out!
MSNBC’s Katy Tur Calls Out Ted Cruz’s Hypocrisy For Opposing Hurricane Sandy Relief. Katy's right. Sniping or not, Cruz is despicable. He is one of the biggest hypocrites in the Senate and in the country. I'm glad she called him out. Je me souviens!
Blake Mathews with KHOU is excited... and I don't blame him. THE SUN IS OUT!! EVERYBODY!...THE SUN IS OUT! THE SUN I TELL YOU! ☀️ ☀️ Bless your heart! Let the sunshine in!
While some people are struggling with nature, it's dry and sunny here. KEXP sticks with the Summer vibe. They seem to express their gratitude to our pleasant weather with its music. Thank you, The Stone Roses, for Beautiful Thing. Voilà Bellingham!

maandag 28 augustus 2017

maandag 28 augustus 2017 Water seeping into the KHOU 11 building. Everyone forced to evacuate. Such a desperate situation! On Bill Press... Trump treating Hurricane Harvey like a Reality Show. As Harvey Drowns Houston, Trump Struggles To Contain Himself. It's contrived seriousness at best, morbid fascination at worst. I'm thinking about disaster potential. In our very safe city of Bellingham, it's warm and sunny. It's beautiful. While Harvey sits in Texas, we'll stay nice and dry. It's basic meteorology. High pressure is pushing off the Pacific marine flow... for at least the next 14 days. Disaster looming for us? When The Big One Hits...
It's just another MUTO Monday. Godzilla (2014).

vrijdag 25 augustus 2017

vrijdag 25 augustus 2017 Midnight movie - War Of The Worlds. The astrometrics of it all... The closest the planets could come together would be when Mars is at its closest point to the sun (perihelion) and Earth is at its farthest point (aphelion). In that situation, the planets would be 33.9 million miles (54.6 million kilometers) from each other (Aug 2, 2012).
Asleep for 3 hours. Up for Bill Press. Healthcare policy reporter for USA TODAY - Jayne O'Donnell - is on the show. Her report - Amid mounting bipartisan concerns, debate over Trump's mental health takes off.
Keeping track of Hurricane Harvey. Thanks, CBS! And thank you, Weather Geeks. Airing the Weather Channel live on YouTube. Harvey is a Cat. 3!

donderdag 24 augustus 2017

donderdag 24 augustus 2017 In defending his responses to the Charlottesville violence, Trump selectively omitted his reference to "many sides" or "both sides." Trevor Noah Caught Donald Trump’s Glaring Omission During The Arizona Rally. We have a winner! (I was hoping that it would be me.) Massachusetts ticket snags $759 million Powerball jackpot.
Congratulations for Mavis Wanczyk. Bless her heart! I wish her all the dc comics and chocolate milkshakes that she wants.

Igor Volsky is guest host for Bill Press. I don't blame you, Igor. Everyone is tired and frustrated with Trump's speeches... and covering these rallies. A total eclipse of the facts.

zondag 20 augustus 2017

zondag 20 augustus 2017 We're in dire peril. What will the future hold for us? ---Sonny Chiba in Invasion Of The Neptune Men.
Started watching The Defenders. Nice to see Finn Jones back again. The Iron Fist is probably my favorite character...
Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage... I like them all. Together, they make an awesome team. Although, it takes a while for these fiercely independent individuals to cooperate with each other. Each episode seems so fast-paced that 50 minutes zips right past me. Game Of Thrones - Eastwatch shows us how execution by dragonfire works. Jon Snow pets the dragon on the nose! That freaks me out!
I feel a little guilty for staying inside most of the day. I'm taking the sunny days for granted. I bike for a little bit in the evening. Playing with YouTube, I see Tom Daley's collaboration with Nile Wilson. I'm very impressed with how they figure out these complicated poses... like putting together a 3-D double-body puzzle. I hope that Tom and Nile get lots of hits for this - Extreme Yoga Challenge!

zaterdag 19 augustus 2017

zaterdag 19 augustus 2017 Forbidden Planet - the granddaddy of tomorrow. A lovely synopsis for one of my favorite movies: A dutiful robot named Robby speaks 188 languages. An underground lair provides astonishing evidence of a populace a million years more advanced than Earthlings. There are many wonders on Altair-4, but none is greater or more deadly than the human mind. Factual error: The star Altair is shown as an orange-red star, eclipsed by one of its (spherical) planets. It is now known that Altair is white and is oblate, with its equatorial diameter 14% greater than its polar diameter, something that was not known when the movie was produced.
It's 67 °F at solar noon (13:13 PDT). Nice mild weather for us.
Minnesota senator Al Franken appears on Real Time to discuss Donald Trump's "unbelievably horrible" week. Yes! Franken/Stein for President!

The eclipse will be very visible in Bellingham. Maximum eclipse at 10:21 am PDT Monday.
KEXP does it again! Time warp back 21 years (1996) to hear Pepper by Butthole Surfers! Nostalgia is where it's at! I'm really enjoying National Radio Week. They tell such interesting stories spotlighting loved-but-lost stations like REV105, WOXY, KJET, and many others. Thank you so much!

donderdag 17 augustus 2017

donderdag 17 augustus 2017 We're locked and loaded as Trump puts it. I watch The Interview at midnight.
I'm a fan of Jupiter! Indeed! Post by Gizmodo - Despite our squabbles here on Earth, the universe is full of so much beauty it’s almost stupid. Jupiter is perhaps the most unreasonably beautiful thing in our entire solar system. SPACE NEWS: New Image of Jupiter Is So Beautiful It's Making Us Angry.
It takes an hour to walk from my place to the downtown Bellingham Public Library. No more smoky skies. They are crystal blue. KEXP is playing some classic rock like Black Flag - Rise Above. (1981)
On my way back, I see that the new Overflow Taps has opened in Barkley Village. Here's to a new beer joint in Bellingham! Cheers!

Mother of woman killed in Charlottesville: 'This is just the beginning of Heather's legacy'. Standing in line for a memorial service for Heather Heyer. Hatred doesn’t have to be taught.
This could be a major turning point for Trump. Late night responds to Trump's press conference... All manner of stupid came out! Stephen Colbert: Donald Trump Might Not Be President By Friday. Man! It'd be nice if I didn't care anymore. Nirvana - Breed.
