dinsdag 30 december 2014

dinsdag 30 december 2014 Midnight movie - Thor: The Dark World. Turn on BBC News. AirAsia says debris is missing plane. The Airbus A320-216 crashe halfway through a two-hour flight between Surabaya, Indonesia and Singapore after encountering storm. My condolences. What a horrible thing to happen. Manage to sleep for a little while. I shouldn't watch action films so early in the morning. Turn on KUOW. Just lay in bed listening. Fried potatoes and egg for breakfast. Nice hot bath. Up to QFC to do some shopping. It's gloriously sunny, but it's only 34° and a little breezy. Watch a little KING-5. AirAsia heartbreak: Bodies, suitcase, oxygen tank found. Back outside. A trip to Pike Place. A view of the ferry.
A busker is strumming something familiar... It's Red Hot Chili Peppers - Under The Bridge.
Back to my place. It takes a while to warm up, so I crank up the steam heat. Now I need to open the window to cool things down. Watch France 24. Interesting debate. The Jihadist Wave: Countering The Extremist Message. Félix Legrand is on the panel to talk about his experience in Syria.
Switch to KOMO News. I need to say that Justin is persistent. He gets it. Justin Bieber falls off skateboard in front of crowds.

maandag 29 december 2014

maandag 29 december 2014 Midnight movie - Howard The Duck. I don't get the connection of this film with Guardians Of The Galaxy. It's so weird. It takes place in Cleveland in 1986. I saw the RTA sign, and I asked myself... Did they really film that in Cleveland? WMMS on Lea Thompson's guitar case. Ladies and gentlemen... The lovely and talented Howard The Duck.
I finally conk out to sleep. Up at 11:11. Watch KOMO News. The 12th Man's next challenge - scoring playoff tickets. Turn on KUOW. Listen to The Record. Listen to a very interesting story about the Aloha Inn on SR-99. Bouncing Back From Homelessness And Meth.
Each day, thousands of people speed by the run-down old motel on Highway 99 just south of Seattle's Aurora Bridge. It's no longer a motel. Now it's a place where homeless people can stay for up to two years and get help while they try to get back on their feet.
Switch to BBC News. The search for AirAsia Indonesia flight QZ8501 ends. AirAsia plane 'at bottom of sea'.
Play with YouTube. I love Sump'n Claus. Walk up to Whole Foods to get a few things. Sunset - 4:25pm. It's pretty chilly. Watch KOMO. Oh, my. They sample craft brews - Best Belgium Special Beers, Grand Cru, Rodenbach 2011, Abominable Winter Ale. They show us the sunset. Beautiful!
Watch Flipper. An episode has never made me cry. Flipper - Coral Fever. Flipper is hurt by an explosion.
The boys are sad and upset, but they help him heal.

zondag 28 december 2014

zondag 28 december 2014 Midnight movie - Warm Bodies. He's Still Dead, But He's Getting Warmer! An unlikely romance between a beautiful human teen and a sensitive corpse. Cute. Nicholas Hoult is R, for lack of a better name; he just can't remember... He seems to have the right instincts (I want to protect her, not eat her), but is extremely confused (How do you talk to a girl?). It's a romantic zombie flick. I want to watch it again. Up to QFC to get some things. I see the Seahawk fans are out already. It's a little drizzly this morning, but I see blue skies ahead. Back home. Sometimes, I wish that I could live in Flipper World.
The Ricks are stranded on a uninhabited island and Flipper are missing as the convicted killer, Al Bardeman, is getting further and further away. Can Flipper save them?
Oh My God! It's Burt Reynolds! He plays Bardeman... the bad guy!
The Seahawks are set to play host to the Rams in the final regular season. Seahawks vs. Rams: National media picking Seattle to win, earn NFC’s top seed. Seahawks earn NFC West crown, home field in 20-6 win over Rams.
In the meanwhile, I watch Blazing Saddles. My mind is a raging torrent, flooded with rivulets of thought cascading into a waterfall of creative alternatives. Watch SNL Christmas again. One Direction!
At last... To complete the day! Outer Limits!

zaterdag 27 december 2014

zaterdag 27 december 2014 Up at 5:30. Finally! A good night's sleep. Check my lotto ticket. I might be a winner. I got a number and the Mega ball. Watch France 24 and KOMO News at the same time. I know that they carry news from all over the world, but I noticed France 24's fascination with American news - Tens of thousands gather for slain New York policeman’s funeral. Spaghetti carbonara for breakfast. It's perfect!
Weather report calls for rain in the morning, turning to showers in the afternoon. It looks fine outside, so I take a early morning walk. It's 43° and a little breezy for my walk down to 3rd Avenue. Back up Pike to my place. Watch Young Frankenstein. Turn on Wait, Wait... Don't Tell Me. Time to take a moment to remember some of our favorite stories about celebrities, science, the Sochi Olympics and more. It's The Best Of 2014. First, I laugh. Then I cry. Watch movie - It's My Party. The film is based on the true events of the death of Harry Stein, accomplished architect and designer. I love Rick Steves for the holidays. In Europe, Santa Claus has some rather interesting relatives. Get acquainted with such characters as Baba Noel, Grandfather Frost, Saint Nicholas, Krampus, and even Samichlaus and Schmutzli. Listen in as friends from Madrid, Rome, London, and Lisbon tell us about their cities’ Christmas traditions, then hear how the holidays are celebrated in Bulgaria, the Swiss and Austrian Alps, and in the Low Countries. Getting toward the final episodes of Season 1 of Flipper.
Hash browns, fried sauerkraut and egg for dinner. Watch movie - Monty Python's Camelot. The DVD player keeps spitting it out, but it plays, eventually. My favorite quotes: What... is your favourite colour? ... Your mother was a hamster and your father smelt of elderberries! And the ever popular pie jesu domine, dona eis requiem. Meanwhile... On to scene 24, a smashing scene with lovely acting... an African swallow?

vrijdag 26 december 2014

vrijdag 26 december 2014 Midnight movie - Star Trek 3: The Search For Spock. I love the scene with Uhura and Mr. Adventure. Love his hair. Look at you. You're a twenty-year space veteran, yet you pick the worst duty station in town. Turn on BBC News. It's the 10th anniversary of the Indian Ocean tsunami. Friends Mark and Joe were in Thailand at that event. Manage to sleep for 90 minutes. Fried egg on toast for breakfast. Bath. It's 36° and a little foggy for my walk up to Whole Foods. Pick up a few things. Back to my place to warm up. Munch on some crispy bacon. Admire my good-bye cards from work. They're full inside and on the back. Watch France 24. Walk down to the library to print out my resume. A library clerk is very, very helpful. He coaches me step by step to access my e-mail, to send the attachment to the printer, print it out and pay for it. How exciting for me! Walk over to 717 Pine Street for lunch at Café Yumm!.
I got a medium Jazzy to go. I yummed it all up. A little walk up Pike. It's nice... fairly warm and sunny. Tourists sound a little surprised to see a line down the street for Starbucks. That's unbelievable! I try to explain, "Oh, it's the new Starbucks Reserve. Special coffee, I guess." One asks me, "Is it good coffee?" I respond with Pffft!
Sorry! It's a French Pffft... like "I don't care." Peu importe. (It slipped out.) As the sun quickly sets over Seattle... Peu importe.

donderdag 25 december 2014

Should You See The 'Super-Sized R-Rated Version' Of 'Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues'? I say YES! I want to see more of James Marsden. Watch The Outer Limits: Rite Of Passage.
Every life is a destination unknown, a journey of tragedies and triumphs that ultimately allows us to discover not only our world, but more importantly, ourselves.
Fish porridge for dinner. More movies - Captain Phillips. I didn't know that Iron Man 3 is a Christmas movie.

woensdag 24 december 2014

woensdag 24 december 2014 Another restless night. I watch Godzilla (2014) which makes me more restless. Lots of roaring, screaming, explosions and loud destruction of Tokyo, Honolulu and San Francisco. My jaw drops when Godzilla tears at the Golden Gate Bridge. Unbelievable! Hoping that BBC News can bore me to sleep. It can't.
Hummus on toast for breakfast. Walk down to Uwajimaya.
I'm all over the place today.  I used my EBT for the first time at Uwajimaya.  Qapla'  Success!  After I drop my stuff at home, I head down to Pike Place Market to drop my pocket change into Rachel.  It's busy, but not crazy busy.  There are long lines from the bakeries.  Catch a bus up to Harvard Market just to pass through the QFC.
Veggie pizza for lunch. I can't believe it! Very special for me! Pee Wee's Playhouse Christmas Special Is On Netflix! (With Billy Baloney).
Watching an old Star Trek - Voyager episode on VHS. Wow!  When was AOL 6.0? Amazing. Really? 2000 A.D.? I remember when they sent me their trial disks in my mail box. Times change. So, I doubt that Saturn is closer than Mars. This is the screenshot of the planets and stars for Christmas Eve via Star Walk. It just a matter of perspective... how you roll it.
So... I need to decide... What's for dinner? Cháo Cá or... Mì Gà? Chicken seems good. What's for the After Dinner Movie? Guardians Of The Universe... of course! I can't believe it! I ate all the noodles!

Just lay in bed watching France 24 and DW-TV. Interesting weather on KOMO News. A model depiction of the jet stream flow over the western United States on Dec. 22, 2014. You can see the outline of the national borders in white. Photo courtesy: earth.nullschool.net Walk up to the Capitol Hill Community Services Office. I qualify for a few benefits. Lots of basic questions. These people seem rather nice. First, I interview with Celine. A social worker takes me over to the Health Plan Finder desk. (It's the last day to apply.) Maryjane gets me on Neighborcare Health. Very, very helpful. Walk back d'town. I am worn out from all that walking. Nothing is relaxing about The Flash. Watch episode 9 - The Man In The Yellow Suit.
Turn on All Things Considered. This report is a tear-jerker. Record Number Of Britons Are Using Food Banks. In the UK, the economy is expanding, unemployment is dropping, yet growing numbers of people don't have enough food to eat. Take a walk towards festive Westlake Center. Downtown is super-busy. The words of the hungry people are still buzzing in my brain, while I see the opulence of the season. Behold the Macy star!
Cheesy potatoes for dinner. Watch Star Trek: The Wrath Of Khan. Khan and Kirk have a standoff at Mutara. I quote Scotty: The energizer's bypassed like a Christmas tree, so don't give me too many bumps.

Back to my place. Watch KOMO 4. They feature The Hollywood Tavern in a segment. The Whiskey Nudge sounds good... but I'll skip the whip cream. Whiskey Milk Shakes? CRAZY! The flu hits hard. Is that what hit me on Monday morning. Oy!

donderdag 18 december 2014

donderdag 18 december 2014 Up at 7:07. Oh, my! Nice to sleep in. Turn on Stephanie Miller. Comedian Jason Stuart joins show for the last hour. I'm so glad that he mentioned that Mediaite posted Movie Theaters Are Pulling The Interview Means America Is Now North Korea. And 6 Other Movies About North Korea That No One Lost Their Sh*t Over. I can't believe that Sony and the theaters caved in so easily! I'm going to watch Team America, World Police.
An ex-employee of Sony calls into the show to share his fears about the hack-in. I feel bad for Seth Rogan and James Franco... all that work that they put into this project is just a waste. Sony Pictures Cancels December 25th Theatrical Release of ‘The Interview’
I need Rachel Maddow for her perspective on the Cuba thing and the North Korea thing. Spying, skullduggery permeate US/Cuba relations. US points to North Korea for Sony hack. Cuban expats gain new political prominence. Thanks, Rachel.
Stay in my nice, warm apartment on this cold, dreary day. Watch Flipper's Bank Account. Who started the rumors about sunken treasure? BUD! Of course!
The rumors throw Coral Key into chaos. Sandy shakes his head in disbelief and says, "My brother, the criminal."
Check Wikipedia about Cuba. Fascinating history and culture. I hope that I can visit Cuba some day. Thinking warm, tropical thoughts. Guantanamera!
