zaterdag 13 augustus 2011 Up at 5:14. Watch DW-TV. Syria is still meanness. US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has urged countries to stop buying Syrian oil and gas as Washington seeks to build pressure on President Bashar al-Assad's regime to end a brutal crackdown on protesters. Report - US Urges Nations To Cut Ties With Syria Over Crackdown. One of my favorites... Kronos. A machine that drains all of the energy from the Earth.
Kronos explodes and the Earth is saved. Yay! Next. Atlantis. Ah! The crystal chamber. It's their life force!
Next Star Trek - Wink Of An Eye! Kirk and Spock battle the Scalosians.
It was 50 years ago. They started to build the Berlin wall. Rick discusses with a Berliner what it meant to split the city in half fifty years ago. The "Checkpoint Charlie" museum in Berlin has extensive exhibits on the Berlin Wall.

vrijdag 12 augustus 2011 Up at 3:36. Turn on France 24. Where does France stand amid the financial crisis? Lot of concern about economic turmoil in France. Trying to investigate the rating agencies like Standard & Poors. Can France survive a recession?
Hash browns and fried egg for breakfast. Turn on Stephanie Miller. Catch up on the last night's debates in Iowa. It sounds like they were disqualifying each other. Not pretty. Republicans eating their own. And it seems that ol' Mitt needs a little help in understanding the difference between corporations and people. This will make a great campaign slogan. You're such a schmuck.
They talk about how Rick Perry's Texas Has The Highest Percentage Of Minimum Wage Jobs In The Nation. There's a lot of wrong stuff in Texas, and we really need to investigate this Rick Perry guy. I think he's dangerous.
I explore Paris again with Google Earth. I stumble upon Institut d'Études Politiques de Paris - 27 rue Saint-Guillaume 75337 Paris. It's a school which has traditionally educated France's political and diplomatic elite. Kids from all over the world attend classes here. The intermingling of so many cultures must be fascinating.
Fog this morning. Walk up Westlake while listening to KUOW. It Weekday Live: Nancy Pearl And The Bushwick Book Club. To work. I give breaks to Toni, Sharon, Pam and Kyle. I get a lot of time on the playground with the Dolphins, Seahorses and Starfish. We have lunch prep today. Thanks, Charity. We take the Starfish inside. I read a couple books while Olivia changes a couple diapers. Over to Seahorses for Anne's lunch. Why are they going "Ma, ma, ma, ma" for their lunches? Toni goe to lunch. Mr. O hasn't had a nap for 6 weeks, but today he goes out. Back to Starfish. Only 4 kids, and they're all asleep. Miss T. is an early-riser. She makes a little sticker page. She wears it as a cape on her back.
The rest of the kids sleep until 3. Check Money on my break. After wild swings the first four days, Dow ends the week with a relatively tame 125-point gain. Whew! What A Wild Week!
Up to Whole Foods to pick up some things. Drop off stuff at my place. Turn on KOMO News. This is a little controversial. King Co. Council To OK Car Tab Fee Hike, Save Metro Bus Service. No More Ride-Free Zone which is used by 9,000 riders each day, to be erased by October 2012. Another pretty day. Let's go! Destination - The Colman Dock. I zig-zag through the streets of d'town Seattle. I feel a slight on-shore flow. Nice and cool. And there are some interesting ships in Elliott Bay.
Back at the apartment, I turn on Hardball. More on the Republican debate in Iowa. Rice and spicy tofu for dinner. Thank you. And here's the weather report...

donderdag 11 augustus 2011 Up with alarm. Sorry to hear Gavin DeGraw Attacked In New York. Sad news. He's a great talent.
DeGraw tweeted Tuesday that he didn't remember much of Sunday's beating. Pasta salad and egg salad for breakfast. Turn on Stephanie Miller. They talk about Perry, Prayer, Politics And The Presidency. David Bender thinks that he'll take the Iowa straw poll.
Watch 45 minutes of Romeo Must Die. They've got the guns. They've got the posse. Walk up Westlake to work. I cover for Anne's planning time. Cindy covers for Toni's P-T. Cindy has a caffeine-induced inspiration for an art project - ice cream sundaes made out of cardboard egg cartons, cotton balls, alphabet chips and brown paint.
I don't think that the Seahorses have ever used glue before, so I got a little messy. Toni stays to be the third person for this experience. I don't think we'll be able to go outside, but we do. It's a really nice day. I take a few inside for diapers and lunch prep. I feel relieved when Toni comes back at lunch time. Nice to settle down. The kids go down for naps. Quiet time. Mr. A goes right to sleep. Over to Starfish for the last hour. When Cristin goes on her lunch break, Sam cries and wakes everyone (almost everyone) awake. Walk up Mercer to Queen Anne. #15 bus to d'town. Change clothes at my place. It's such a pretty afternoon. I need another walk. Up Union to 12th Avenue. People are enjoying cocktails in the open air bar. It's Auto Battery.
Back down Pike to my place. Funny. I'm not at all interested in the Republican Debate In Iowa. Finish Romeo Must Die. I like the use of the X-RAY in the violent scenes. Heavy emphasis on explosions and machine guns. Rice and tuna for dinner. Watch Empires: The Greeks - Crucible Of Civilization.

woensdag 10 augustus 2011 Up with alarm. Watch a little KOMO News. I guess that they're still rioting in Britain. Report - Police Calm London, But Riots Flare Across UK. Wikipedia even has a post about it now - 2011 England Riots. I like the new time lapse video they show of Mount Rainier.
I love how the Milky Way hovers over the mountain as the clouds move out of the valley below. Thank you, Don Jensen. Trader Joe's Country Potatoes and a fried egg for breakfast. There's no hot water for my shower. Watch a crazy little movie - Interzone. It's a schlocky Mad Max rip off. Walk up Westlake to work. A little break for Leisha. Only 4 Sea Otters. Up to Moons & Stars to help out. These kids really test their teachers. We eventually organize them enough to get them outside. I head upstairs to set up their lunches. Down to Seahorses for Anne's lunch break. The kids are really interested in the pasta primavera. "Let me see!" Toni's lunch. I cut up scraps for a collage project. Over to Starfish. There's no peace. Someone wakes up crying and crying... The crying wakes up 4 others. We sit down early for snack. They love the sweet potato fries. They practically shout "BYE, MIKE!" when I leave. Walk up to the Westlake Hub. This kid comes wants directions to the McDonald's on Pike. He's cute but a little weird. #550 bus tunnel to Uwajimaya. Pick up some SCB, rice, Tuna Poki and veggies. #594 back to Union. Drop off this load at my place. Play podcast of The World. I listen to some emotional and direct comments from a British woman... “This is war right now on our streets, this is war for our young people,” Ohoru said. “Give us a tomorrow! Give the kids a tomorrow. There is no tomorrow. You have all get a slice of the cake; you have all got good jobs. These kids will never set foot in a college or university with half of their mothers on benefits.” Report - UK Riots Rage On. Change of pace... Watch MST3K - Warrior Of The Lost World. (Just to follow up on my morning movie.)
Pesto pasta salad and a little tuna poki for dinner. Watch Harball. Check out the Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2011. Yay for Tom Green! I wonder how Hal Sparks is doing there. He's making jokes of the future 'today' in Evolution Overdrive.

dinsdag 9 augustus 2011
dinsdag 9 augustus 2011 Up at 2:54. Turn on BBC News. What's going on in London? Birmingham, Bristol, and Liverpool, too.
Prime Minister David Cameron has said that police will be out on the streets in greater numbers on Tuesday night to deal with any fresh disturbances. He is "sickened" by all this violence. Switch to DW-TV. Stock markets in Europe endure a volatile morning, with shares seeing heavy falls at first but then recovering some ground. I enjoy Deutsche Welle's report the 21st International Poetry Festival Of Medellín. A global gathering of poetry! Fantastisch! It's fun to hear and watch Julian Heun do his poetry slam.
Rice and egg for breakfast. Turn on Stephanie Miller. They talk about the controversy stirring around The Cover On Newsweek Of Michele Bachmann. Yikes!
Sorry. That deserves all the mockery Steph can dish out. It sounds like Steph and Aisha had a lot of fun in Santa Fe. And there's David Alexrod's comment: "This is essentially a tea party downgrade." Lots of blame to go around about our economy. Walk up Westlake to work. Fun day with the Starfish and Seahorses. Mostly cloudy and cool day. We enjoy an extra long time on the playground. Creative uses of the large waffle blocks.
Olivia makes a shelter... a maze for the kids.
It's fun to explore inside and out. Color with chalk. Someone built a train for the kids. "Where are you going, guys?" "To Starbucks!" Ha! How Seattle of you.
Some kids are begging for Row, Row, Row Your Boat! More, please.
Leisurely lunch time. The Starfish nap early. The Seahorse go down late. Streetcar to d'town. Drop off stuff. Take a walk up Melrose to John and back again. Watch a little Little Britain. Delightfully queer, quirky and clever. Switch to DW-TV. Those German economists... I like their German accents but their voices sound very troubled.
Wait and see mode. Pasta primavera for dinner. Watch Harball and Rachel Maddow.Rachel is covering the recall vote in Wisconsin as the votes roll in.
Watch Star Trek Enterprise - The Catwalk. When a deadly neutronic storm threatens the ship, the crew must take refuge for eight days inside the maintenance shafts of the warp nacelles.

Democrats pick up 2 state senate seats in Wisconsin, but it's not enough to win control.

maandag 8 augustus 2011
maandag 8 augustus 2011 Up at 2:02. Turn on France 24. Markets around the world and rather nervous. All of them are down 2% following an unprecedented downgrade of the US government's credit by Standard & Poor’s and growing worries over the eurozone debt crisis. Switch to DW-TV. Oops. Comcast conks out before Talking Germany. Disappointment. Rice noodles and egg for breakfast. Shower. Up to Kaladi for some Wi-Fi and some of Jeremiah's delicious coffee. Back to my place. Happy! I'm connected again. Watch Tomorrow Today.
I believe that the Lindau Conference was back in June, but Bill Gates was there. Walk up Westlake to work. 10 - I'm extra for the Seahorses. They have a paint party. Lots of blue plaint on news print. Then we go outside. 11 - Cristin's lunch. Seven Starfish play with the new dirt. Olivia and I take the kids inside early. They're tired and hungry. 12 - Anne's lunch. The Seahorses eat lunch. I brought a hummus sandwich. 1 - Mr. O leaves early. The 6 Seahorses sleep. Nice quiet hour. 2 - Olivia's lunch. The Seahorses are fast asleep. One wakes up early, but she wants to rest on her mat. Before I leave, all of a sudden, they're all awake. Walk up Capitol Hill to Cal Anderson Park. Sit a little while to rest. Here's my new Kaladi cap.
Up to 12th Avenue. Hey! August 14th is The 12th Avenue Neighborhood Festival. Sounds like fun. Down University to my place. I'm not up to watching the news. Maybe later. Instead, I watch Voyager - Hunters. Brace, yourself, Mike. We're going to Hardball. GeeZ! The Dow Plunges 635 Points. And what is Obama going to do about it?
Instead, consider this... The Worst The Economy, The Less Likely The Congress Will Do Anything About It. Watch more MSNBC. Spicy chili on rice for dinner. Revert to Star Trek DS9 - Indiscretion.

zondag 7 augustus 2011 Turn on France 24. More people are dying in Syria. Report - Scores Killed As Syrian Tanks Bombard Northeastern City. They talk about the refugee problem in Southern Turkey. Syria's government is also making a media war on the protestors, calling them violent thugs when actually the opposition has responded by repeatedly calling for their movement to stay peaceful at all costs. Switch to DW-TV. Report - Berlin Fears Eurozone Cannot Rescue Italian Economy.
Spaghetti and beans for breakfast. I'm all about the French Romantic artist Eugène Delacroix. I explore his neighborhood in Paris - Saint-Germain-des-Prés... 6 rue de Fürstenberg.
Delacroix was given neither to sentimentality nor bombast, and his Romanticism was that of an individualist. Admire his art.
Saint-Germain-des-Prés... Home to a number of famous cafés, such as Les Deux Magots and Café de Flore, the Saint-Germain-des-Prés area was the center of the existentialist movement (associated with Jean-Paul Sartre and Simone de Beauvoir).
Le Zéro de Conduite... Allons-y! The cocktail menu sounds fantastique. Turn on A Prairie Home Companion. Their show is a summer compilation of Town Hall broadcasts from New York City. I love Justin Townes Earle's song One More Night in Brooklyn. Up to Whole Foods to pick up French wine - a refreshing dry rosé from the heart of Provence. Watch a Jet Li movie set in Paris - Kiss Of The Dragon. I can't believe how they tear up that beautiful hotel in that fight scene. It looks a lot like Hotel Raphael but it's Le Montreux Palace. What a shame that Uncle Tai dies.
Short walk up to B'way and back. Play movie - MST3K: Lost Continent. Oy, veh! Then The Time Travelers. Love those 60's b-movies. Stir fried veggies, tofu and rice for dinner. Watch Star Trek - Patterns Of Force and Voyager - Message In A Bottle. I conked out after that.
