zondag 30 september 2018

zondag 30 september 2018 Whoa! Last night's SNL was a lot of fun!!! Matt Damon plays a seething (and sniffling) Brett Kavanaugh. And Kate McKinnon returns with her own calendar. I laughed so hard! Weekend Update: Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.
I'm up at 6AM Pacific, but it's already 3PM in Malaysia. And Mark O'Dea posts a vid - spending a lovely day with his mum at Tioman Island. Nice walk in the drizzle from "H" Street to Dupont to d'town. Watching runners on the B'ham Marathon. Whatcom Creek is flowing.
A homeless man with a bike and a plastic tent on the creek.
Back home. Don't you wish that Tomorrow Is Yesterday? I'd like that!

zaterdag 29 september 2018

zaterdag 29 september 2018 I had a nice dream that I met an old friend at the New Rainier Square. He took us in his new self-driving car to Madison Park for a fancy dinner.
Morning movie - MST3K: Crash of Moons. Who'll save the Cosmos? Yay! It's our hero Rocky Jones, Space Ranger!
It's mostly a cloudy day. Not too cool. I eyed a little paperback book in French at the Book Sale yesterday. And I got it today for 50 cents - Mémoire d'une peau (1998) by Williams Sassine. Whoever donated this book, I thank you. It looks interesting.
The NSA's illegal surveillance techniques are leaked to the public by one of the agency's employees, Edward Snowden. I'm watching Snowden.

vrijdag 28 september 2018

vrijdag 28 september 2018 Why do I feel so much consternation, bewilderment and outrage on this beautiful day? It's 77° F with crystal blue skies. I hate that our country is being ruled and ruined by whining, entitled, privileged, corrupt white guys.

Falling too fast to prepare for this. Tripping in the world could be dangerous. Everybody circling, it's vulturous. Negative, nepotist. Everybody waiting for the fall of man. Everybody praying for the end of times. Everybody hoping they could be the one. I was born to run, I was born for this. Bus up to the Co-op for brunch. I walk from Columbia to BPL. I need to walk off the adrenaline in my veins. A Book Sale! It's too too claustrophobic for me. Many books and many people in that little space. The Foreign Books area seems empty. We can learn a lot from other cultures. Hmmm. Japanese Street Slang.
Back home. Cleansing the Oval Office?????? Thanks for making me laugh, The Daily Show and the lovely and talented Neal Brennan.

donderdag 27 september 2018

donderdag 27 september 2018 Paris Fashion Week, which runs from Sept. 24 to Oct. 2, continues to break boundaries. Fantastique! Jean Paul Gaultier Readies His ‘Fashion Freak Show’.
As they say... Le Freak, c'est chic!
France 24 takes me to Paris. I'd like to linger in the City of Lights today... at least in my mind and in my dreams. The capitol of France has impressive monuments, romantic cafés and pretty parks. Is Paris a dirty city? Oui! Air pollution is bad at rush hour. People leave their cigarette butts everywhere. Dogs poop as they do. Night owls pee in the streets. Just watch this vid (en français). Let's watch Star Wars in French! Les Derniers Jedi. Vive la Résistance! I wish that I had my own apartment in Paris... watching the sunset.

woensdag 26 september 2018

woensdag 26 september 2018 The Walking Dead star Tom Payne says Carl's death "throws a hand grenade" into the show. I was up all night about this. I'm devastated.
I'm having a lovely walk around Bellingham. It's warm and sunny. I'm taking pictures. The Fall colors are beautiful...
Then I turn on BBC News. Ugh! I hear Trump accusing, blaming, judging and threatening the world. You can easily turn everything back on him. Trump accuses China of election 'meddling' against him. They weren't laughing AT me, they were laughing WITH me - Donald Trump. This press conference should be used as evidence for 25th Amendment. Holy Shit.

dinsdag 25 september 2018

dinsdag 25 september 2018 Up with BBC News. Reality Check: Does America pay too much to the UN? Audible laughter in the United Nations General Assembly - #UNGA. CNN: Trump Emphasizes US Accomplishments in UN Speech.
Trump brushes off laughing UN audience, doubles down on 'America First' agenda. They didn’t laugh at Obama. They listened.
Construction at Waypoint Park. OMG! I don't think that this park is going to work. The diesel fumes are awful. The noise from the jackhammers and machines is bad, too.
Whatcom Falls Park is 2.4 miles away. It's more peaceful here.

maandag 24 september 2018

maandag 24 september 2018 Midnight movie - Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country. I love the dinner scene. The food props during the dinner scene aboard the Enterprise-A were: plastic sperm whale, hardboiled "Klingon" egg, unspecified flower species, chicken a-la-king, and blue Kool-Aid for the Romulan Ale.
Rod Rosenstein has resigned/been fired/is expected to be fired/will not quit/will leave his job/will refuse to go quietly into the night without a fight/will be at happy hour with the rest of us tonight. We've all have been waiting for constitutional crisis. Rep. Trey Gowdy urges Senate to be "fair to the witness" during Kavanaugh, Ford hearings.
Biking around on this beautiful day, I saw the students at Western Washington University gathered in Red Square for Info Fair. Look at all those kids! My college days were 40+ years ago.
I also visited the rocky beach on the bay. It was a little breezy.
Welcome back, WWU students. (But I'm not totally sincere.)

zondag 23 september 2018

zondag 23 september 2018 HK-China high-speed rail link opens. Cory Henry & the Funk Apostles get me going this morning. Out to get beer before the Dallas v Seattle game. Rayne Dakota "Dak" Prescott #4 v Russell Carrington Wilson #3. Make ❤️ Not war.
Workout! Being a dad can be a workout, but Tom Daley does more! Their little boy, Robbie, is 11-weeks-old now. Much ❤️ to you, Lance and Robbie! Tom Daley on becoming a dad, prejudice and the problem with UK surrogacy law.

zaterdag 22 september 2018

zaterdag 22 september 2018 Up with Real Time. Bill Maher presents the case why Trump has “narcissistic personality disorder” before closing his show. Watch New Rule: Narcissist In Chief. If there was a nutrition label on his ass, it would say ‘35% fat’ and ‘65% Narcissistic Personality Disorder' . Good show, Bill!
Merry Mabon! Turn on KUOW. Very wet this morning. Not much rain on my walk thru the woods. Listening to Live Wire with Luke Burbank at the Neptune Theatre. I like the interview with queer writer and official Seattle civic poet Anastacia-Renée.
Happy Beer Garden! Overflow Taps is the sponsor of this event. It's Soktoberfest. They didn't offer me any free beer. 🍺 🙄
Watching BoJack Horseman: Season 5. Check it out!

vrijdag 21 september 2018

vrijdag 21 september 2018 Mark O'Dea is back with a snappy, new music video. 1,091 views! In honor of the last day of Summer, KEXP plays Everyday Should Be A Holiday by The Dandy Warhols. Super cool! The Dandys rule! And they're right... Everyday Should Be A Holiday! The Summer's best Northwest photos as the season draws to a close. This lovely photo - Sveta Imnadze - shows a lenticular formation around Mt. Adams (Trout Lake, WA) .
I miss my view from the Seattle apartment... I miss you, SEATTLE.
Nostalgia hits me today. Smile and cheer for a new day... a new season. I love Coldplay's A Sky Full of Stars.

donderdag 20 september 2018

donderdag 20 september 2018 Up for MSNBCAll In with Chris Hayes. Why does Trump keep talking about wet things? I don't follow Cameron Kasky on twitter, but I check on him every so often. He was recently on The Rubin Report. He speaks honestly about surviving the Parkland Shootings and his decision to step away from March For Our Lives. Sadly, we're dealing with more death today. Four dead in Maryland shooting, including 26-year-old female suspect. Finally, we get some decent rain. Down to BPL. I discover a Japanese stone lantern donated to Bellingham by the city of Tateyama, Japan. It's on page 6 of the Public Art Tour.
I pick up a DVD - Hamlet, Prince of Denmark. This should be fun!

 Rodney Bennett

Writer:

woensdag 19 september 2018

woensdag 19 september 2018 . Up with Stephanie Miller because SHE'S A BAD MAMA JAMA! Calling into the studio, Malcolm Nance chats with Steph about saving democracy. 66.6 °F is the high we got today. Riding my bike around The Neighborhoods of Bellingham today, it occurred to me that this could be the last perfect day of our summer. We're expecting rain and cooler temps from now on. I really admire the old homes in Columbia. They built some of them around 1899. Riding up Washington Street.

dinsdag 18 september 2018

dinsdag 18 september 2018 Happy birthday to journalist, Presbyterian minister, lecturer and activist Chris Hedges. Chris and I are the same age, but he has more hair. I read books, but Chris writes them. I already read Wages of Rebellion. His latest - America: The Farewell Tour. 388 pp. Simon & Schuster. $27. Back in March, he was in Vancouver, B.C. to speak - The American Empire Has Collapsed.
Walk to d'town, I admire these cute bungalows on Hampton Place. I want the yellow one with the luscious garden. A friendly black and white cat comes out to greet me. Pet me, please.
Bus over to Fred Meyer. Indivisible Bellingham on the community board. Five days from now. Your Vote Counts! Block Party.
This makes my day! On Ellen! Happy time! Jason Mraz and Meghan Trainor perform More Than Friends. Good show!

maandag 17 september 2018

maandag 17 september 2018 The Galileo Seven crash-lands on a hostile planet. Escaping the planet - surrounded by a quasar-like formation - proves to be difficult. Spock suddenly decides to dump and ignite all the fuel from the shuttle's engines. The giant flare it produces is seen on the Enterprise view screen just as the ship has left orbit. The updated graphics are great! Seahawk colors!
Tonight, the Seahawks play the Bears at Soldier Field. My Pike Brewing Co. t-shirt is ready to wear in support of the Seahawks.
Judge Jeanine! How much gin have you had? Yay! Jim Ward is back on The Stephanie Miller Show with his wit and humor.
Judge Jeanine Pirro Slams Dianne Feinstein and Her ‘Pack of Demon Rats’ Pirro = unhinged lunatic. Every. GD. Day.
Is this the last "summer-like" day for us in Bellingham? Data from the Alexander House on Utter Street: 65° F and sunny. I walk and bus around town enjoying the fair weather. Reading The Motion Of Light In Water... a memoir of Samuel Delany as a young gay science fiction writer living in the East Village. Did he really memorize the names of all the Elementary Particles as a teenager? It's real and intimate.
I loved my LEGOs when I was a kid. Never take a brick for granted whether it's plastic or what. Trevor reminisces about bricks... I don't know what to watch tonight. The Seahawks, the Mariners or the Emmy awards.

zondag 16 september 2018

zondag 16 september 2018 Midnight - 1961 Italian sword-and-sandal film Hercules in the Haunted World. Hercules and his buddy Theseus must journey into Hades to retrieve the magic stone that will free his love from the powers of Pluto.
Creepy colors and haunting scenes... the stone monster Procrustes straps Theseus to a bed of death.
Next: slapdash comedy/adventure Year One. "The first road trip." Wow! Typhoon Mangkhut is twice as big as Florence was. My nephew lives in Macau. Typhoon Mangkhut wreaks havoc in Hong Kong. Even the casinos in Macau are closed!
The Last Weekend of Summer Feels Like Fall. I agree. Rain changing to sprinkles and a few sun-breaks in between. I like it.

zaterdag 15 september 2018

zaterdag 15 september 2018 John Kerry Tears Into Trump With ‘8-Year-Old Boy’ And ‘Teenage Girl’ Taunts. It really happened! Colleen Wing gets the Iron Fist. Watch Iron Fist Season 2 Episode 9: War Without End.
This opens up a new world of possibilities, but what about Danny Rand?
Downtown to deliver my book back to the BPL. Sprinkles turn to real rain. Biking in the rain can be fun... if you wear the right clothing. Back home to dry off. Turn on The Outer Limits. What if your dad came from a strange planet? Let's watch The Children of Spider County.
What happened to Ethan - the son of an alien? Gifted and poetic actor Lee Kinsolving died in (1974) Palm Beach, Florida at the age of 36 from a sudden respiratory illness.

vrijdag 14 september 2018

vrijdag 14 september 2018 It's a high-impact weather event. WWAY covers Hurricane Florence LIVE as the eye approaches the North Carolina coast. The eye is 23 miles across. Winds 90 mph.
Surf City, NC - Heavy Rain · 78°F (26°C), Wind NE at 40 mph (64 km/h), 95% Humidity 6:33 AM. Florence slams North and South Carolina.  Power is going out.  Rain is flying sideways.  Damage accumulates.
Time to get cosmic. Reflections on the Cosmic Perspective is the last chapter of my book. Thank you, Neil deGrasse Tyson, for writing this.

donderdag 13 september 2018

donderdag 13 september 2018 I have a strange fascination with Florence. Hurricane Florence's outer rain bands nearing N.C. coast.
The weather for us is a little humdrum. Cool, breezy... drizzle.
Biking around the trails of Bellingham. I'm seeing Fall colors everywhere, but this little maple tree is the brightest thing.
It's been a while since I rode down to Fairhaven. Visit Village Books where I see lots of Fear on a shelf on hold. Availability: backordered. Just browsing. I thought that Cosmo Sapiens was about astrophysics. It's a big book about Life, the Universe and Everything. Space is cool!
