Beautiful day. I turn on BBC News for my walk. Interesting program: Imhotep: The Man behind the Mummy. The architect of the Step Pyramid. An adviser to a very important pharaoh, King Djoser.

With that, I head down to OPL. I find the 1932 movie - The Mummy - where Imhotep is played by Boris Karloff. An archaeologist brings the mummy back to life with dangerous consequences.

Oberlin has been quiet for the last 3 months, but things are buzzing again. Tomorrow is the start of New Student Orientation.

It's so hot out (89°F) that the ride is not enjoyable at all. Back home to watch Kingsman: The Secret Service. I love this scene where Eggsy is recruited by Galahad. I see a young man with potential. A young man who is loyal. Who does what he's asked and wants to do something good with his life.

maandag 19 augustus 2019 Midnight movie - Howl. It's San Francisco 1957. An American masterpiece is put on trial. Howl, the film, recounts this dark moment using three interwoven threads: the tumultuous life events that led Allen Ginsberg to find his true voice as an artist, society's reaction (the obscenity trial), and mind-expanding animation that echoes the startling originality of the poem itself. All three coalesce in a genre-bending hybrid that brilliantly captures a pivotal moment - the birth of a counterculture. I loved it!

I admire Allen's devotion to free speech and First Amendment issues. He expressed his concerns of the destructive forces of capitalism through in his poems. I wonder how concerned he would be about the threats to our environment. Turn on France 24. I listen to the amazing tale of Ungersheim - The French village leading the way in going green. Horses take children to school, a solar farm has replaced a mine, and the local authorities support organic farming.

Democracy Now reports. It's nice to hear about empathy, compassion, kindness and altruism... prosocial traits largely innate in humanity.
