I'm a new fan of writer Joel Stein. I zipped through his book In Defense of Elitism. It's entertaining and thought provoking. It's obvious that great divisions exist in America, but this book really makes you realize how serious it is and the threat that it poses to our society. You wonder how instinct and reason are useful. When do you employ confrontation? Is it okay to just disengage? Joel is self-deprecating about his own feelings and attitudes... as seen in this video.
