dinsdag 23 maart 2010

dinsdag 23 maart 2010 Up at 3:10. Turn on BBC News. There's a lot of Business talk. They also have a special report about the Sierra Leone Civil War... the horrible atrocities. Turn on Hal Sparks at 6:00.

Beet salad and hard boiled egg for breakfast. Up to Kaladi for some of Frank's delicious coffee. Hang out in the shop for a few minutes. Drop off 2012 at Blockbuster. Back to my place. Listen to Hal Sparks. John Fugelsang joins him in the studio.

Listen to KUOW's Weeekday Show on my walk to work. The issue is Child Soldiers. Interview with guest Jacob Acaye who grew up in Northern Uganda. He was abducted by the Lord's Resistance Army (LRA) at age 11 and was held captive for three weeks before was able to escape. Now he's 20 years old, and he talks about his involvement with Invisible Children. Walk up Westlake to work. 10 to 11:30 - Planning time for Anne. Sharyn covers for Elaine. I meet the 6 Starfish out on the playground. They are really involved with the sandbox. When we head back inside, I do the diapers while Sharyn gets the bean table out. 11:30 to 12:30 - Pam's lunch. I meet the 6 Dolphins in the Bike Room. Kenn and I get into a discussion about comedian George Carlin... and his misanthropic sense of humor (in Carlin's words) "humanity's bullshit" which might include murder, genocide, war, rape, corruption, religion and (children warriors in Africa).

George, you are so right on! And Kenn... You sound a lot like George. Back to the classroom. The Dolphins have lunch. I do the diapers while Kenn cleans the lunch mess. 12:30 to 1:30 - Kenn's lunch. The Dolphins go down easily for naps... but I hear a rather familiar struggle next door. "No!" I missed all the Sea Otter drama. 1:30 to 2 - Jenny's lunch. She's subbing for Charmaine. The Sea Otters are all asleep. Wyatt wakes up toward the end of the hour. We read books and look through photos in the camera together. Listen to The World on my walk home. Hey! I'm not the only one who enjoys Google Earth... People are using Google Earth to find impact craters on our planet. Report - Democratic Republic Of Congo Ring Could Be Giant 'Impact' Crater.
At home, I switch to France 24. France (and Europe in general) comments about American "backward" views about the issue of health care. "Finally," one man says, "They join the normal world." So, one of the top stories on France 24 - Obama signs milestone healthcare reform bill into law.

Joe Biden: "The Greatest Wealth Is Health."

And Ted Kennedy's widow was in the crowd. It's easy to give into cynicism, but I believe this is right. Watch episode of the old Outer Limits - The Guests. A leather-jacketed young man is forced, against his will, to walk up the stairs in an old house to a room where he is interrogated by an alien. Geoffrey Horne plays the role of the handsome "Drifter."

Very smart. He knows... that he needs to leave the house. This is quite an emotional episode... choices about life, death, the ability to leave the past behind and move forward. I think all the actors do a great job and lend an air of remorse and nostalgia to the episode. Rice and Cholay Chicken for dinner. Watch movie - The Meaning Of Life.
