woensdag 1 september 2010

woensdag 1 september 2010 Wake up to The Colbert Report. Too loud. Switch to Rachel Maddow. I enjoy her report - Fringe And Purge. Tossing and turning. I switch to BBC News. I give up trying to go back to sleep. Turn on CNN to listen to comments about Obama's speech and projections for Hurricane Earl.

There's also a nasty storm front in the Mid-west. I wonder if that will affect my travel plans. Make coffee. Trail bologna and macaroni salad for breakfast. Watch Saved By The Bell - Cream For A Day. My attention strays to the computer. Need to check the weather in Milwaukee for the first leg of my journey with Storm Team 4. It seems that things will be ok this evening... I hope. I look forward to the mild climes of Seattle.
Turn on Stephanie Miller. Oh, boy. Steph can't start her car, and she does the first segment of the show from her cell phone in a taxi cab. She eventually gets into the studio to take comments from callers about Obama's speech from the Oval Office last night. I see a cat waiting for its food. Wait patiently, little kitty. I think that dad is sleeping in this morning.
Play with Google Earth. I can find Nacy's Lake in Elyria. Walk up to Rite-Aid to get a new notebook - 99 cents. It's over 80° already. Yet, I don't start sweating buckets until I head back. Shower. Chat with Nana for about 10 minutes. She sounds happy that I came to visit. Turn on HBO to watch movie - (500) Days Of Summer. It's a bitter-sweet story. The film features a musical sequence after Tom and Summer spend the night together. As Tom walks to work, he is overjoyed and struts down the street in a grand musical number set to the Hall & Oates song "You Make My Dreams" and others join his dance. I love that scene!

Ah! There's dad. He's gives the wild cats food and water. Let's call dad Catman!

I eat the rest of my McDonald's Southwest salad for lunch. Mom asks me, "Is that enough?" (I'm not eating enough?) Mom is now playing with Google Earth and printing photos. Lisa picks me up at 3. She takes some of the country roads and SR 224 (which seems to be the quiet side of Akron). We listen to Talk Of The Nation on 90.3 Cleveland. They discuss how the Chilean miners can keep themselves sane while help comes. We get to CAK by 4:25 EDT. I give Lisa a hug and a thank you. It takes me only 6 minutes to get through security. Wander over to Great Lakes Brewing to get a glass of wine - $5. (Good price.) Another glass, please! Sports is on the TV. A sports reporter says, "The difference between genius and stupidity is that genius has its limits." Hmmmm. Buy a Newsweek at the concession stand. The Making of a Terrorist-Coddling, Warmongering, Wall Street-Loving, Socialistic, Godless Muslim President. Great! I see that author - Jonathan Alter - is taking on the Fox-promoted Obama myths. Actually, I bet that Fox News is proud to provoke this response.

The Newsweek article - The Illustrated Man - recommends how Obama can fight the lies. Over to gate 8 to take flight #3117 to Milwaukee. But once on board, there's a little trouble with a passenger. So, the plane heads back to the gate so that TSA can take her away. That delays our take-off by 20 minutes. We make good time, but I have a close connection. Once in Milwaukee - gate C24 - is my goal... and it's just a few feet away. Lucky me! With a quick dash, I'm on! Oh, boy. I'm so nervous, but now I can relax. I have a feeling that AirTran doesn't care if your flight is delayed and you arrive a few minutes late at the gate. "Too bad for you!" They would have left me behind for the sake of promptness. Well, our flight leaves promptly at 7:55 CDT. Relax to FX station #51 - Coffee House. Both of my earbuds work this time. I seethe sunset at 8:15 CDT. I get my first plastic cup of wine at 8:47 CDT. I notice that I'm not the only one with an old-fashion spiral notebook. I adjust my watch to PDT. Whew! Three more hours of flying. I see that the guy next to me is reading an interesting book - Healing Racism In America.

He let me have it to browse for a few minutes. Thank you, kind-handsome sir. Our flight arrives a little late into Seattle. I walk rather quickly to the Light Rail station to catch the 10:50 train. I miss it by a couple minutes. Doh! The next one leaves at 11:05. I love to ride this line to d'town. So easy. So quiet. So quick. I walk through my own door at 11:53. I un-pack and relax.
